  1. Before I took the role, my parents hired a manager. Needless to say that didn't end well at all. I'm not saying that there aren't any good managers in towing. Just that I believe they are rare and most do not last long anywhere. What has everyone else's experience been, have you been able to maintain a manger that is more on the management and support side. Seems other companies use their managers more as drivers/tow ops than anything and the owners do more employee management. Now. that is likely in part to always hiring when we do not have as large a turn over of employees. Thoughts?
  2. Welcome Back, Found my way back shortly after the move from Tow411 to TowForce. Slowly finding my way back to checking in more regular. This year seems to be far more active on the forums, I can hardly keep up just reading all the new topics. With that this is the best towing resource the industry has to offer. Far more professional members, just got get them to talk. I catch Dad reading, can't get him to log in.
  3. Thanks for the reminder, we did this a few years ago and it's time to bring the course back in again.
  4. That could have been a Tow Truck and it could have been much worse. Vehicles are replaceable, Lives are Lost...
  5. Our thoughts and prayers, it doesn't seem to be getting any better out there. What's it going to take to make our jobs safer...
  6. Well you found a good community of tow ops to interact with. I would not even know how many years of experience there is here.
  7. Checking in.. Size Large! Keep up the good work, this message board is growing every time I log in.
  8. Our thought's and Prayers Go Out to the Friends & Family. Such a tragic loss, do we know if they caught the boyfriend of the cars owner yet. That appear to be some major damage from the angle of the picture. Wonder who towed to this hit & run vehicle.
  9. Welcome, TowForce is a great community of Tow Truck Operators. I don't make these purchases but I know our company was a customer back in the days of the old Tow411. I remember the posts on there but I was still in school back then. I'll ask her when I see here later, I know she keeps a supply of stickers on hand.
  10. Welcome Trent, there lot's a knowledge here. Though, I am not always able to login as often as I would like. Going through the unread topics make it easy to catch up and since I have really cut back on Fakebook. I find these topics are much easier to follow. Ask questions, Dad says he doesn't want me to attend the same school of hard knocks he went through. Said he can't afford it...
  11. If I can't talk Dad into a 25T, maybe he'll go for a 16T. We sure need a bigger unit but it seems as though this one is working for you.
  12. As always Thoughts and Prayers. I saw a few tow ops reporting that this tow operator was taken off life support. Later they learned that was not accurate and in fact he continues to be listed in critical condition. So, I want thank Ron for not moving too quickly on these reports until he has confirmation. Issac Simmons will be in our Hearts this Memorial Day Weekend. We Pray for his recovery, Lord we ask that you spare this Tow Op and give him strength to hold on and be on a road to recovery. Amen
  13. wonder what he would say today, if asked was it worth it. To turn around after leaving to run someone down and they shot around who was running away. Florida may be a stand your ground state. However, the threat must be coming toward you and not away.
  14. Small Dozer, did it max the carrier out?
  15. This is why we have two fire extinguishers on each unit. This didn't just catch fire all at once, there was likely enough time to get a fire extinguisher at the point to where the fire began.
  16. Two Fire Extinguishers on each truck, drivers are shown where they are on a routine basis and are responsible for the ones on their assigned unit. If they are missing a Fire Extinguisher, we will replace it once in a years time period. If they had a situation they had to use it, they can trade it out for a new one. We don't want any of our truck to not have a fire extinguisher on board.
  17. Isn't it something, this topic is 12 years old. Yet, the industry has not changed much, with the exception of we see more video's of tow trucks coming together when there is a Fallen Tow Operator. Seem the Tower Down message goes out and it's like ringing a bell. But, ring the bell for an association meeting os a state event and less then half if that will show up. Where is the Industry going if we cannot unite as competitors. I know there is plenty of work for most of us. More work most days now then we have drivers. I think I might be glad when jobs are harder to find cause we get better drivers during those times. I hear how we are all doing our best to be safe out there working along the side of the road. Yet, I still see the majority of companies no doing enough to be safe. I was told to shut up and mind my own business. Old man said Kid you don't know what you're talking about. All the while I stood there with my ANSI III Clothing and a Guardian Angel on my shoulder. I stayed and directed traffic around them before to left with the vehicle I came for. Oh and yes, they drove off and left debris in the roadway which I cleaned up. Cops took note of that and said it would be the last time they hooked up without cleaning up.
  18. Checked with the Office (Mom) and they never heard of Saferide before. Guess that's why they were not on mentioned in the rankings. That or they are not a Top Ten Club. Would like to know more about them, we tow motorcycles and small RV's.
  19. That's how I would have done it... Was the driver of the jeep on the phone and failed to stop? Could have just as easily been a tow truck siting there which got struck. Distracted driving is everywhere, I see people on their phones....
  20. Are you doing anything special for your Mother today? I might need an idea other than flowers. I don't want to leave out all the Moms that are active in the tow biz, must be one or two on here.
  21. Those roll up doors are fantastic, told dad we need those on our heavy when we get one. He keeps delaying, but we have business to justify the purchase. Good Luck with it...
  22. I don't understand how this accident occurred. I did hear it was a matter of miscommunication. Some I have seen blaming the trucker, I need to know why the tow op was in a position such as this one. Was this a case of Let the Truck do the work for you. Was there away to have used the tow truck which would have avoided being in that position. So many questions which will likely go unanswered and nothing will be learned. So, without that knowledge it could happen to another tow op. RIP Flaco
  23. YouTube is full of these type video's of drivers cussing traffic while working in the Danger Zone.
