Mar. 30—MARIETTA — A fire destroyed a handful of small storage buildings and several cars at a towing lot off Dodd Street Tuesday. The Marietta Fire Department responded around 1:45 p.m. to the lot, used by George's Auto & Towing Services, where firefighters found three or four storage buildings ablaze, Marietta Fire Capt. Steve Dau said. The fire spread to about 17 cars on the property. Nobody was injured. The cause of the fire was unclear, and it remains under investigation, Dau said. A pair of Rome men are accused of damaging a tow truck on East 12th Street Tuesday afternoon, reports stated. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Alton Barrian Searcy, 61, and Albert Searcy, 64, ripped more than $5,000 worth of equipment from a tow truck, causing it to be inoperable. Crash on I-20 kills tow truck driver A tow truck driver was killed this morning on Interstate 20 in McDuffie County at the site of an earlier accident. The first crash in the early morning blocked a lane of eastbound Interstate 20 at Cobham Road. A tow truck driver was attempting to load a vehicle after that crash and was was struck by another. The vehicle that struck the driver left the scene and Georgia State Patrol troopers were attempting to locate it. CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - The Cordele Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying a tow truck. Police said the truck picked up a 2009, light blue Toyota Camry in the 1200 block of 13th Street on Aug. 27, around 3 p.m. During the investigation, police said they determined that the vehicle was not repossessed but was taken unlawfully. There is writing on the side of the truck but it is unreadable. An Atlanta woman is facing criminal charges after she reportedly ran over the foot of a local business owner. Tuesday evening, police were called to Orr’s Wrecker Service after receiving information a woman had damaged property with her car. EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A man is in custody after a hit-and-run near Blue Jay and McCall Road in Effingham County. The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Springfield and Rincon Police all responded after the suspect fled the scene. A news report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution states that tow operator Darrell Simpson, 26, of Marietta, Ga., is in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver at approximately 2 a.m. on I-285 in the Atlanta metropolitan area. A tow operator in Forsyth, Ga., survived a crash that occurred April 19 when a vehicle hit his tow truck on the side of I-75. A Tennessee man was behind the wheel of a Honda Civic that hit the tow truck as the operator, Robby Callahan, 59, had finished loading a disabled pickup. Jeff Underwood is a tow truck service owner who is always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and now people all around Central Georgia are wanting to help uplift him when he needs it most.
