Last winter we got a call to remove 2 old trucks from a property that was being sold. My guys pulled a Chevy van & a GMC pick up out of the weeds & brought them in. After inspecting them, I told the owner that there wasn't much there to work with and there would be substantial costs to repair them. I ended up buying them for a couple hundred bucks. We decided to make something out of the truck to flip it but it turned in to something much more complex... The bed was terrible so it was removed only to find the chassis had seen better days. Typical GM crossmember damage on the frame. We media blasted the chassis & installed/f…

We got this truck at the end of last year. Our last wrecker had 2 tunnel boxes and this one only has 1, so we were a little short on storage. We added 3 additional boxes. My boss has also let me add stuff to make things more efficient. Simple stuff first, 2 buckets for floor dry/debris 2 Boxes have been placed on each side of the bed, which did make it difficult to watch the winches. So mirrors were added to aid with that. Again, the boxes make backing up to a car difficult to see it. All of our trucks have on board dvr, with 4 cameras. I added a monitor to be able to see. This truck has a compres…

My shop truck was looking a little tattered from a rough winter so we figured we would run it through our body shop for a new "suite" and then put our new logo on it... She came out pretty nice for a 300,000mi truck! Then off to the wrap shop.... I was happy with the results. My team did a good job on her & she's ready for another 10 years of service.

Hello, thought I'd share some of the work my old topkick has gone through in the last 6 months, the floors were rusted out, all the compromised material cut out and new material welded in,completely new brake lines from the master cylinders to the calipers, new axle seals front and back, the sleeper bunk isolators replaced, some engine isolators, front shocks, the cross bar for the deck slide ram on the deck itself was destroyed, had a new one fabbed , installed and reinforced, new rear 1/2 round fenders installed and new rear mudflaps/hangars too. On the interior, the rubber floor only went as far as the front of the seat, so now has carpet from the rubber back unde…

I bought this truck 19 years ago as my 27th birthday present to myself. She has served us well. Took it out of service a little while ago to get a rebuild but with growth of the business we had to moth ball it. Well with the Coronavirus crap going on we have had some time to get working on her. Total refurbishment of the Wrecker Unit to include new Hydraulics, wireless remotes, body sides and a Color Change to match the rest of the fleet.

Combined from several topics which were made on Tow411 in 2014: This is what we start with. been trying to purchase this for five years, finally got it Start the mount. JUSTFISHING said: All I can say is NO. Why so heavy why add all that weight , 3/16 would be fine. rustytowing said: Decking is not the right wording. This is part of sub frame. The mast bolsters and cylinders mount to the plate. In next pictures you will see the plate on the side of the frame has gussets. Not complete yet. voigt21 said: I like it! Ke…

Can anyone tell me if Holmes 480 #56 control rod neutralizer on passenger side is supposed to be straight? Driver side is straight and illustration says they are supposed to be the same=straight, but would like to confirm just in case. It functioned, but if not correct I will fix it. Was going to take slop out of controls and everything associated has been hacked by a real pro. If rod is supposed to be straight I guess something violent happened to "S" bend it. Which could explain ultra sloppy shifter shaft going into case. Uh oh. Sorry about photobucket.

Here’s something I’ve been working on this summer. I built this F-650 pickup from a 24ft dry van truck a few years ago, but the novelty of the dually box wore off and I wanted more functionality out of the truck. I blew a recap drive tire and tore up the pickup box last year, so I decided to rip the truck apart and upgrade to air suspension, install a wheel lift, and build a flatbed. No winches or boom, I wanted to be able to drag around disabled junk but still tow gooseneck trailers and have a useable 8 ft x 102” flatbed deck. Don’t know anything about the wheel lift, no data plate or anything. I bought it from some guy who turned an old rollback carrier …

These were originally posted in 2010. The Rebuild took place in 200?. The story is this began a Towzilla. It was an old electric company line truck originally. Looked like this when Timco bought it. The Frame, diffs, & x-fer case are a 1948 GMC Tim, cut off things I didn't want & welded on things he did want. Tim then made the wrecker bed, & squirted on a little paint on till it looked like this. And Towzilla was born or created. In time, the old cab began to rust away, & the engine got tired. So once again, Tim cut off things off he didn't want, & w…

Topic Originally Created on Tow411 in June of 2015 Almost done with a re mount on our truck #5. We found a F-450 4X4 to re mount one of our slightly used wrecker bodies on to. It is a 1990 Holmes pro tec 8 ton. We re painted the cab and chassis and sand blasted the wrecker body and tool box. Shot them in white and blue with silver pinstripe and then transferred the body to new truck. We are still missing some lights on the cab of the truck and new front end and chrome bumper. Simulators arrive late today and couldn't wait to put them on.
