Tower Down - 05.02.22 (PA) "Updated 06.28.23"
yoBdaBenO replied to TowZone's topic in Industry Headlines
Thought's and Prayers are with this Repo Driver. Seems like this could have happened to anyone. Odd that it didn't involve a specific vehicle and it wasn't a robbery. Of was it a Robbery that went wrong? Repo types don't carry enough cash to be worth it. -
I was watching for images from the show as well. Were there many on FB or Twitter, I don't open those sites so I don't know.

May the TowForce be with you on Cinco de Mayo
yoBdaBenO replied to TowZone's topic in Tow411 Main Street
There are not as many street festivals as there once was and yes America does Celebrate far more than Mexico. It's a marketing opportunity for businesses, primarily restaurants. Can not recall the number of DUI's being higher though and it's more like St. Patty's Day. Instead of Green Beer, it's Margaretta's. Now, I think there's a car cruise tonight. I have to go look for it. Happy Cinco De Mayo -

2022 Survivor Fund Golf Classic "Florida Tow Show"
yoBdaBenO replied to Devon Banks's topic in Tow411 Main Street
I don't play golf and I want one of those Monster Trophies. In fact I think I will order this one cause it best represents me. -
Is the hitch bent or just the angle of the image?

I want one, but I don't truly know why... Possibly it's the couple of old parking garages with low clearance or parking lots on the local campus that are very tight. Either this rig and we start booting them cause it doesn't pay extra for the extra time involved.

No Facebook, just don't have the time. I have watched more YouTube's in recent months. The forum with those Video's here got me hooked. Always finding tips to getting vehicles into neutral and other useful tricks. Thanks for the forum for these video's here, I think. LOL

Tow Truck Driver Struck - Unconfirmed "Maryland"
yoBdaBenO replied to TowZone's topic in Industry Headlines
Any updates? We had a tow truck driver struck near us last year. We didn't hear about it until last week. It wasn't in the news and I don't use Facebook. Had one of the guys look and he did not find it anywhere either. Though we know it actually happened, I am not going to post the info, cause i think the company is keeping it out of the news. I feel this happens more often then we are aware. Dad says, years ago companies used to be silent when one of their drivers was struck and killed. Don't know if that is true, but there wasn't social media back then. -
Any further details?

Let’s help those that need it guys when we can.

My parents have done this or years... One guy stood around and complained about how long it was taking to swap a tire. We were giving him the tire!!! We just ignored him and said have a good day. Two weeks later he brought us money for that tire. We told him, the tire was on us and we were not taking his money. Keep in mind this wasn't even a tow. We just saw him starring at his tire a block from the shop. Said he had no money and was living in his car. When he returned we didn't take his money even though he said he got a job the next day and was being paid weekly. He thanked us and said he was on a better path in part because of our kindness. Just never know when something that doesn't really cost us much can alter a person path in life. This is a good topic for others to add their Random Acts of Kindness. Do you have any, seriously these life events alter my life. -

Thanks for keeping us updated..... -
I have to wonder how many Tow Truck Driver are struck that we never hear about. Our news would likely not report if it were not a Police Officer or Fire Fighter. Then again on a slow news day they might. Hard to say....

Welcome Ty, passing your information on to the office staff. We have talked about starting online auctions this year. Our auctioneer and live auctions have been problems for more than a year.

There are a few of these sentimental value rigs around here. Rusting into the ground, not worth moving even for scrap. Don't worry I checked they are all Homemade or Frankenstein...

Welcome, we don't get any calls from Tesla. Although, we have been a provider for more than a couple of years now. As we see more Tesla models roaming the streets, I am sure that will change.

No injuries following fire at Preferred Towing Saturday (MI)
yoBdaBenO replied to TowNews's topic in Industry Headlines
Good to hear no one was injured and they were able to get the fire under control. -
Like the payphone in another topic, this is another one we have not seen in years. Dad, misses his yard dogs something terrible. He has his dog with him sometimes and we do carry insurance as long as the dog isn't running the yard without a lead. He doesn't leave dads side so there isn't an issue. Every year Insurance Agent says he will not be able to add the dog to the policy and it renews anyway. Anyone else deal with having a dog on the business property. When we had them after hours, no one broke in to the lot. Someone did poison the neighboring companies dog, we did not have that happen. Then again they only ran to the fence if someone tried to get in. Dad said the drivers were not scared of the dogs back then. But, then younger drivers began to have issues coming in after hours. Who remembers having a Dog loose after hours?

Does Your Company Have A Pay Phone?
yoBdaBenO replied to American Towman's topic in Office and Impound
Up until a year ago we still had a booth similar to this one outside the front door. Not sure how many years it sat without a payphone. I do recall one as a child and watching folks check for change. However, the phone part has been gone more than a decade. After the phone was taken out we had one of those payphone on the counter. That lasted a few months and it became a huge hassle. Everyone has access to a cell phone now, so no issues there anymore.
