From the Blog of Geri Roskopf: I came across a poem titled For the Garden of your Daily Living. It seemed appropriate during springtime, and a great reminder of “you reap what you sow,” or in other words, you eventually have to face up to the consequences of your actions. Use this planting advice to make your garden grow both in your personal and business life. “Plant three rows of peas: 1. Peace of mind. 2. Peace of heart. 3. Peace of soul. “Plant four rows of squash: 1. Squash gossip. 2. Squash indifference. 3. Squash grumbling. 4. Squash selfishness. “Plant four rows of lettuce: 1. Lettuce be faithful.…

After leaving the Miller Factory, we went to the ITRHF. I have contributed thousands of dollars to this organization but never got to visit the facility. It was a very nice time and I would recommend it to anyone interested in our industry. Here are some pics for the folks that have never seen it... I also have high resolution pictures of the Wall of the Fallen plaques on the memorial if anyone has a friend or f…

One reason people fail in small business is they don’t truly understand the difference in profit and cash flow. So, they blow their cash flow on personal crap and starve their business to death. Then when a tire burst or an engine blows they find themselves in dyer straights. Why because they blowed the business money on personal pleasures never realizing the profit margin was much lower than the cash flow going thru the accounts !! At my company we know trucks are gonna break down so we have funds set aside to allow for that we keep 50-100 tires in stock for our units at all times, cables chains and on and on. Christmas comes at the same time ea…

The Tow Times April issue brings you the story behind the Wall of the Fallen, the industry’s memorial to honor and remember tow operators who lost their lives in the service of others. Topics also include the benefits of using salespeople to take your business to the next level, why using a winch to load or unload vehicles is a better option than driving vehicles on/off, the rotator’s role in quick roadway clearance, and a review of the latest rotator models. “Hustle & Tow” pops the hood to take a close-up look at America’s unsung essential workers who perform daily under extremely dangerous conditions, despite every imaginable encounter with unexpected terrain, wildlife and weather: tow truck drivers. These hard-working men and women respond to a massive array of calls from recovering stolen cars, to handling contentious impounds, clearing behemoth big rig wrecks, rescuing families who have veered off the highway and much more. Embedded with diverse shops and drivers in both rural and urban communities across the country, “Hustle & Tow” offers viewers a rugged “day-in-the-life” perspective on tow truck drivers, where …

We have been busy adding new content to the message board today. We had a couple of members ask what they can do to speed up the growth of the message board. Not that the growth has not been on target for the past 3 years. It is more that we continue to see more member content contributions and replies to those topics. Seems many have forgotten how to login and reply. I believe social media in general has turned many in the industry off which were once active on the old Tow411 message board. Talk about Tow411, do you know we are now at the level Tow411 was at in 2011. How many know that in 2001 we started with 30 members and in 2003 we had 300 memb…

It's been very busy here, just wanted to jump in and wish everyone a Happy Easter. No matter what you are going through and regardless of faith today is a new beginning. A couple of Moms Favorites: “Where flowers bloom, so does hope.”- Lady Bird Johnson “Easter is very important to me. It’s a second chance.” - Reba McEntire We are fortunate enough to have enough drivers to fill all the trucks this year. Nearly everyone else has hiring signs out, however we pay better and only hire the best we can find. Dad says I'm paying you more than the others, be the best or go work for them. We…

The "Towing Information Network" known as Tow411.net Marks 20 Years of Service to the Towing & Recovery Industry. On this date in 2001 the Towing Information Network was established and within 3 years became the only active Message Board in the Towing & Recovery Industry. This was before many other Social Media Venues came on the scene. With nearly 7000 members in 2011 Tow411 was going strong, but by 2014 Tow411 had out grown the system and was Forced to make a change. In December of 2017 a New Force in the Towing & Recovery Industry was born from the ashes of an older message board system. In just 3 years 3 months TowForce has gr…

Starting today and running through the entire month of February any member can list equipment for sale regardless of supporter status. The only rule is you must include 3 or more images and a price in the description. This is open to all members, both private and dealer sales. The sooner you get the equipment listed the longer the ad listing will run. There is also no limit on the number of equipment listings you can submit. Don't want to list a price, the supporter levels are available 24/7. https://www.towforce.net/subscriptions/

From Geri Roskopf's Blog: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will be establishing and facilitating an advisory board to be known as the “Women of Trucking Advisory Board.” Their goal is to “promote organizations and programs that will provide education, training, mentorships or outreach to women in the trucking industry as well as recruit women into the trucking industry.” While the Women of Trucking Advisory Board will be tasked with identifying ways to support women pursuing careers in trucking, I think the towing and recovery industry could establish an advisory board with the same goals of training, mentorship, education and outrea…
