  1. Got this call the other night that gave me a bad feeling...I tried to give them to another service which was closer but it appeared nobody else wanted to do it... You can't appreciate how steep the hill is here and she ran out of gas going up it. Then it rolled backwards and couldn't get it stopped... Tree stopped her... Pulled it out in to the road after they dumped 5 gallons of gas in it.... Got 300 for the portable meth lab recovery & moved on...LoL
  2. A couple of rollovers we had this week... Guy hit a rock & flipped it in a 25mph zone of a gated community... Apparent DUI situation based on the fact that it stunk like beer and the guy climbed out & ran...LoL Both a couple of POS's but sometimes that's what you get...
  3. We do a lot for our community wherever we can. Here are a couple ways from the last week... Sponsored a Charity Golf Tournament for our local Police Association that Eddie & my Top Tech Anthony participated in as well... National Night Out the other night where we donated a bunch of bicycles... Boy Scouts doing a fund raiser to repair a local Church's playground. We promoted it on our page and then took a wrecker down to get cleaned up! We have always found that comes back as a benefit multiple times over when you help the community.
  4. One of my long time drivers that retired a couple years ago bought a 1955 Nash in up state NY by Buffalo that we went after last weekend... Made for a long day but all went well and he was happy!
  5. My son took the kids out for dinner the other night in my convertible and apparently forgot that it has a 440 big block in it that gets very thirsty....LoL Quit going up back up the mountain to get gas.... Nothing that $80 bucks couldn't cure...thanks Mr. Biden... And just like that...they were off...
  6. I have towed a number of them over the years and they all were different. Chain sling with an angle but sometimes they have lights in the way. Some I have been able to fork but that's typically not the case. I'll see if I have any pics.
  7. I was reading this earlier today. They do a lot of business in our industry. Looks like some big changes...
  8. On the Jerr-Dan, this is a large, solid crossmember in the sub frame and the forks fit right in it...like it was made for it...LoL. But you obviously need a heavy to have the reach to lift it there.
  9. The Jerr-Dans can be towed from the rear legs if you don't have the reach. I did many like this with my 12 ton Cougar. I recommend inspecting the legs carefully for cracks though. Also the carriage bolts that attach them sometimes rot off but the head will still be there in the hole. Just make sure it's got integrity before you lift from it. On a smaller chassis, this probably wouldn't be a good idea. This F650 thought it was the biggest truck in the barn and handled exceptionally well. As for the 4wd...as long as you have the transmission in park & it rolls (in 2wd) I wouldn't see it as a problem.
  10. I have towed a lot of rollbacks backwards with my heavy or my old MD 12 ton... As long as there is good structure there to lift from and your wrecker has the reach, go for it. I have seen guys "sling" a rollback from the trucks wheel lift...that I wouldn't do...
  11. My first rollback (99 F550 w/ Chevron), car wrecker (99 F450 w/ Jerr-Dan HPL35) and heavy duty (95 Peterbilt w/ 99 Jerr-Dan 25 ton)...this parade was in 2000 I believe.
  12. I remember that job with my old "Shaker"... That truck was "reborn" and lives in NJ now.
  13. Rob went to Jersey the other day to get this bus for one of our customers... The guy has 9 kids and is going to use it for personal transportation!
  14. We always get a number of camper trailer moves this time of year for miscellaneous reasons. This was the second one of this day, the 1st being a move on property.,.. Customer's truck broke dawn and needed to get this to their dealer. We typically use one of our shop trucks with a 5th wheel hitch but we sold it so we use Eddie's wrecker to move them now. We have a new shop truck in the works that will again allow us to do them with a P/up truck but in the mean time...this gets it done.
  15. Our thoughts & prayers to the Bertling family. Here was a guy that certainly had a leg to stand on...
  16. A buddy of mine has a new F600 as well and his impound fence swung in to the door damaging it. We repaired the door and painted it...and did his flares & handles as well. We ordered new handles for a Lariat figuring they would look factory. I didn't realize the Lariat handles don't have a key lock cylinder in them so we couldn't use them...ended up just sanding & painting them.
  17. I agree George...and like I said, the Fleet Management company said hard starting and problem going 30mph. We had the truck in a couple weeks ago for a brake problem and found the driver doesn't "Habla" very good... We typically drop the pig coming in to the shop to save space so I figured I would drop it at the store instead of dropping the shaft. We are replacing the rear this week, then I guess we can look at a possible running issue if there is one. I would of rather rear towed the rolloff but that rear ICC bumper was junk and so was the rear crossmamber. They ran the wire harness for the tail lights along the front edge so it would of been an issue to tow it from there. It was an easy shaft anyway...
  18. They are black textured plastic. He sanded them down and then shot them in the white.
  19. We charge for the Skid Steer, the sweeper and it's transportation...all on a 4hr min for large incidents. I don't send it on every job but if I know we will have a decent size mess, it's going.
  20. Nice. You don't see many 377's anymore...I still have one. I don't like the look, hence why I never painted it to match...but it works good.
  21. This is the 4th or 5th truck wreck we have had in this intersection...the trucks turn left heading for the interstate and they must think they have the right a way and turn in front of southbound vehicles. It came in as car versus tractor trailer w/ a large spill so we headed with the Calvary...It was after hours but fortunately a few of my guys were still at the shop and we still had everything on scene in 15 min.... Traffic was making it's way around the incident and had tracked the spill all through the intersection. We brought the sweeper there which makes quick work of a dozen bags of absorbent. It ripped the steer axle out of it on the right side so we had to secure it back in place to tow it... Everything gets dumped right in the dump truck then... Once it was secure, I backed the unit through the intersection to get pointed the right way. Everybody loaded up and we roll out as a team... Got paid this morning and delivered the truck to a body shop 35 miles away... Overall it was a nice little job. It makes it worth while to have the support equipment for stuff like this.
  22. The body shop had some time between jobs so I had them paint the fender flares & door handles on the F600 rollback... We just like how it looks compared to stock.
  23. Cleaning out my phone for the week....I take so many dam pictures...LoL Thought I would post some of what I had going on this week. TT Tow out of our military base which can be a project in itself... Took the trailer to our shop to secure and a 50 mile tow to the dealer for trans problems. Western Express turned on a restricted road and then figured he would back out on to the main highway at night... Well he jacked it in to a telephone pole before he could do any real harm...pulled the drives & front of the trailer sideways for 10' and backed him out. Undecked a trailer for a customer in our yard... Told the guy he diminished about 50% of his chains capacity rigging it like this... Tri-Axle rolloff for a blown turbo... The rear was pretty "fugassie" and I wasn't trusting anything back there for a rear tow... Flatbed getting towed for a supposed running problem... I dropped the pig at the store and rear towed it soI didn't have to pull the shaft. Got back to the shop, dropped in the yard and it wouldn't move? Had to put the power divider in to drive it...pulled the axles and the front rear is blown. Glad I rear towed... Undecking some 24 Freightliners... Uhaul towed for a Pwr Steering Line, took it to a dealer and helped offload it in another truck. Then brought it back to our place for repairs.
  24. I verified coverage today and an adjuster is coming to inspect the casualty. We should be ok I based this job around the property damage to increase my chances of compensation...sometimes you just have to do the job to the best of your ability and then worry about figuring a way to get paid after completion. Leaving a mess like this made would have repercussions long after this truck is settled...
