Today's misadventure. This is on a steep one lane road at the top of the mountain. No snow or ice on the road, just drove straight into the ditch. They have to be trying to do something on their cell phones to keep doing stuff like this See all the trees to work with, one line to bring it back on it's feet, one to drag it back, pretty quick and simply. Air bags deployed Two lines and it was out pretty quickly but then I see this. Broke the ball joint off at the end of the control arm, pulled the axle out of the transmission. no way to get the wheel lift under it and lift it without doing more d…

We got about 4 inches of heavy wet snow on my first night back from a well needed rest. Got a call from a delivery company who had a van stuck. Had to chain up the wrecker to get out on the roads to where he was, an hour later I find him. He had traveled down an old township road that dead ended and went on to an old road that has no maintenance whatsoever. He made it about 3/4 of a mile down hill through a thick tree cover only to come out into the open where he proceeded to get stuck. A neighbor was kind enough to run me down to it in his side by side so I could get a look. There was no way I was getting in there without tearing every light and mirror off my t…

Thought I would post a couple jobs from this week... Trailer with 38k in the box slid off the switcher & folded the landing gear leg... Simple job, 2 Two Part lines & foundry hooks in the pockets... Once up I got a trailer stand to stick under it, packed up my toys & head to the next. Couple nights ago, Had a TriAxle dump blast a car in an intersection... Big mess, we had the Power Broom, Skid Steer & Dump to clean up the mess...

Had this one the other day that hit a low railroad underpass. We get a few trucks here a year...this was the second Penske here this year... Made it through bought caught a reinforcement plate on the other side... Had to cut off a few pieces to prevent further damage with a SawzAll... In her defence...it wasn't very specific...LoL Exhausted the air suspension & deflated the steer tires. Then we removed the car trailer and hooked it up to my pick up for transport. Backed it out to a lot where we could repair it all... …

So the other night after our company Christmas party, we got a call to winch out a TT that was turning around in a parking lot. They believed it was empty & it was unclear what he was doing there anyway. Eddie said he was just going to run down with his little truck to take care of it... Well it turned up the guy had like 35k in the box and wasn't completely in the parking lot anymore either, The steer axle was sunk & rutted in to the grass. This is an "over flow" lot for a local outlet mall and they plowed the entrance but not the entire lot for some reason. No idea what the driver was doing since the DC he was heading to is like 3/4 of a…

I got a call Saturday night for a stuck delivery van on a private road going up the side of a mountain to three homes. There are two switch backs to this road to lessen the grade. The driver did not make it to the first switch back. I was able to back up the hill to get to him without chaining up. Took a little to get the wrecker to sit still but I was able to spin him around so he was able to drive right out. As usual, I forgot to take pictures. Sunday afternoon, just before dark, I got called to go back to the same road to get another van that had gotten stuck on the same road. This guy made up to the second switch back and got stuck on the turn, slid d…

Had a Rolled over salt water tanker this morning that had very limited access. So we squeezed the little 4x4 through the cattle gap and got it done... Yes the unloaded the trailer before the upright.... the frame was just a little bent I noticed the “twin steer tracks” after backing the trailer into the line to drop it.

I recently had to tow a loaded sanitation truck . Question is can you tow Over weight trucks with all wheels on ground . My truck is a 35 ton and wheel lift handled it OK . Problem was I was over weight by my scales . Had good weight steers . Just wondered if there is an acceptable option to flat tow using the wheel lift .

Now that i have some time I am gonna try to get some job pics posted. This is one we did back in January. Around 11:30 pm on a saturday I got a call from one of the local farmers that he had a truck " stuck" Across from the entrance of one of his barns. Being just a mile or so from my partners house, I called him and asked him to go pull him out. About 20 mins later My partner called me back and asked me to come down there with my backup wrecker. This is what the customer claims is "stuck" It is a 1993 International 4x4 that had a load of 6 round bales in it. All but 1 of the bales fell out and rolled down the ravine when the truck rolled over. Using my partners 201…

A little more stick and some blocks and you should be OK on the next one. Another thing is when lifting that much weight I try to keep it close. It is less wear and tear on your wrecker. A thought would be to take the underreach off and get closer to it. Nice truck. heavytrainee said: How much did the coil weigh? danielswt said: Does that truck have a hidden drop axle under the boxes? littleswap said: Daniel i'm pretty sure i…

The Laws of physics says that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time which was very apparent on this accident scene... Simple case of the truck operator didn't see the car coming in the other direction. The new Acura stuffed itself pretty good under the Cascadia to where it ruptured the oil pan and cooler pack. Due to the size of the mess and vehicles tracking it around, we brought in our power sweeper to clean the highway. It makes short order of a 18 or 20 bag spill.... Our Fire guys are great and always help us on clean ups if necessary... Once the bulk was de…

Then to add to the drama...he locked the keys in the truck as well... Rob did the unlock while I got rigged for a simple pull... Easy job which was fine...they don't all have to be a bitch...LoL

I had a call from one of our local excavation companies for a single axle water tanker rollover on a narrow private driveway. I arrived on scene with my 1981 KW W900A with a Holmes 750 to find this truck on its top, driver was ok, tank was empty. I surveyed the scene looking at what was available for Holmes trees on the high side. I set the brakes on casualty, chained front axle to the frame with a 1/2 grade 80 chain, wrapped the drivers front axle with a grade 80 recovery chain, wrapped 2 trees on the high side with continuous loops/snatch blocks. Ran passenger side winch line to tree #1 through 8 ton snatchblock to another snatchblock/chain at drivers side front axle te…

Had an interesting one today in the creek over a guardrail ,,, had to come up to come out due to steep incline and drainage pipe,,, had to keep control of it in air due to high winds,,, Barker's put it in the books. Everyone on scene said how will you get that out???,,, I could hear my Dad in the back of my mind saying,,, "If it went in then it will come out of there!",,,lol. Would have liked more pictures but was limited due to having road shut down.

Eppler towing and a cat d-7 w/winch was brought in to help retrieve the 2 tows and the bobtail. NOTE; the black cloud over our head for three days, we took the picture of it 5 miles away. did i mention it took 3 18 hour days and a bent boom on the yellow 4024 eppler truck before it was over. …

love my job as you guys know. Last night I got a call of a 40' container trailer on its side with 20 tons of paper waste inside at the Port. I was by myself so I called David Solis to see if he was still in Oakland. I asked him if I could do this call by myself and he said no that he was not in the city. He recommended I call Scorni or Bob. I ended up calling Bob and he decided to come out and help me with this one. It's always a treat to learn from Bob and watch his thought process on calls. I don't know what happened but the trailer legs lost one of its rollers and over the trailer went onto its side. Bob and I made it right. Trailer on its side…

I’d say it’s buried. Good thing the tornado left me a few trees to use. All put back up and ready leave... Funny how different people like different things... I hate the new flip lock deal for cable tie backs. These are original springs and glad hand covers from 2006 when I bought this truck
