  1. I don't see the attraction to them but they are bringing stupid money at auctions....
  2. Due to the supply chain issues, our new Ford is sitting in "limbo" with no projected completion date... So rather then have an issue coming in to our busy season, we Purchased a new Ram 5500 with an Aluminum carrier & Self Loader Wheel Lift. My grandkids took a ride with Eddie to pick it up in Ohio @ Fallsway Equipment. I'm not really a Dodge guy but we will see how it does. The intention is we may just use it as an intern until the Ford gets completed. Wireless remote... Later this week we will decide on the Wrap or Graphics package for it and get the necessary required window tint & what not...LoL Dale @ Fallsway does a good job and was helpful in making this happen when we were dealing with these difficult times.
  3. That's pretty cool...It takes some discipline to restore something that big...LoL
  4. Every Friday is a spa day for the trucks...LoL We have a detailer come in and he goes through the fleet. I was running the heavy pretty steady the last couple days and in the rain so it needed some love today... Once everything was clean, my big girl got a nice hand polish rub down before she was tucked in for the night...
  5. Here is one that seems to be popular - https://www.facebook.com/bigdsfab/
  6. Moved one of our local Fire Companies antique trucks to a convention center for some sort of show... This is the second time we have been in this building with a truck... We always like to help out our local Volunteer Fire Companies.
  7. Our new Skid Steer was delivered today... Last year we leased a machine for a winter contract but this year we decided to purchase a new one for our primary work at clean ups and around the shop. Our older one will be moved for our contract work. This machine is about a 1000lbs heavier and has more capacity. It's a little goofy...but it can be operated remotely from your phone as well.... 😎
  8. It's always nice to have a 35 ton jack sitting around the shop....LoL My guys were replacing the suspension blocks on a customer's truck yesterday. It was a 30 min job when you can lift the truck right off the ground... 😉
  9. I ordered 2 new Fords last September, a F600 for a carrier and a F550 for a wrecker. The F550 got canceled by Ford in April with little information other then it had options that they couldn't fill at this time. Then in May, my 600 arrived at the dealer so I was happy about that...but not for long. I sold my 550 carrier on here like in a day or so and then found out that my body wouldn't be available till August or September. Frustrated but we said we would make due without it for the summer. Then we were told it would be done by October 1st...didn't happen. And now it's unclear of the delivery but could be a few months! So now it looks like we are going to buy a new Dodge for a temporary "fix" to the problem until my body comes in. My dealer told me he will give us our money back for the truck if we trade it when the new one is completed so it helps that it won't be too much of a financial burden. It's just nuts how the market is right now...and looks like it will be well within 2024 till things get straitened out...
  10. Jeeze I'm glad you guys weren't driving the dang truck....LoL And hey, my son just bought a new S76 Platinum Bobcat from them so I don't feel too bad about the tow bill.... 😉
  11. This machine was disabled. One side drive motor wasn't working he said, hence why he couldn't get it out to the blacktop....said it just went in circles. So he backed in to get it loaded & then couldn't get out. There was a replacement machine there but he said he tried & couldn't get it to move. Even tried stuffing wood under the tires he said... to which I told him that never works - only in the movies.
  12. The heavy has been busy enough but nothing exciting to speak of...Lots a tows, a little mud and moving junk but it all pays the same... Backed din a yard after a 1 1/2" of rain the other day.... Always fun when you have to secure & strap shit up to prevent loosing stuff... Been undecking quite a few 23's coming in... Again nothing exciting, just unloading my phone...LoL
  13. We support & assist a half a dozen Fire Companies in our county. Tonight we set up a few cars for a company to train some new guys on extraction... We set the vehicles up on our property which makes it easier to set up & clean up any mess. I couldn't stay tonight but will be working with these guys soon.
  14. Had a pretty busy weekend with wrecks... 2 car at a traffic light... 2 car in a private community... Late model BMW 7 Series in a community that failed to negotiate an intersection...
  15. We had 5 crashes this weekend which is good for us...4 of them being big messes like this...
  16. This is probably over on the drives, I would assume that bucket truck weighs around 10,000lbs? I'll say that this handles weight a lot better then our previous Internationals we have owned.
  17. The last few weeks it has become very obvious that winter is right around the corner and we have been in a rush to get projects done around the shop before the snow & cold sets in... We have two house in front of the main shop. One we are renovating for a commercial rental and the other we decided to tear down do to it's poor condition... This machine ate it up like nothing! We built a new entry way to the offices... Laying down some new parking lot area but we are going to have to wait for the spring to complete the Landscaping... A load of drain pipe for a new parking area on the back of my lot... Anybody bought plastic pipe recently?...this load was $4500.00! I asked them it's still made out of plastic right?... This week we had a contractor refurbish the roof on the front shop... They coated it with a dense spray foam product for insulation and then top coated that with some sort of epoxy, weather proof coating. I'm hoping it saves on energy costs this winter and solves an ice dam issue we get on the roof every year. Still got a lot to do so hopefully the weather holds out for us as long as it can.
  18. The other night our Vocational School celebrated it's 50th Anniversary. It was nice that they acknowledged my family and I for all of the support we give the school. I have been part of the program for 40 years now... They asked Eddie to speak at the event... I remember thinking 35 years ago that it was tough to find good help so I figured I would get involved with "building" Techs before they get too messed up with bad habits. This has been a journey that has been very dear to me and I am glad that we have been able to support the school for so many years.
  19. I remember when these came out I looked in to buying one for a Rollback. Unfortunately (not in hind sight) I didn't fit in it very well...and I had my doubts on the "mini Powerstroke" engine so I passed. I believe they turned in to a big disappointment for Ford and never saw sales to justify their creation. We brought this one in a couple months ago for a no start problem. My guys diagnosed it that it needs a Transmission Control Module which is no longer available. To make matters worse, we couldn't find a Ford dealer that still had the knowledge or software to program it if we could find a replacement TCM. Even tried International since they had their own rendition of this but apparently the software wasn't compatible. So we told the owner he had to make a decision and he wanted it towed 40 miles to a dealer near his company which we were happy to do... Doesn't necessarily need the heavy but it was already outside and I didn't feel like dropping the shaft so...
  20. Had one of our customers that lost an engine in a truck that we recently refurbished. Overheated and the driver ran it till it was junk. They wanted the new Box we installed on it to use for storage so we pulled it off and slid it on the rollback for delivery & placement at their yard... Shame cause the truck came out real nice a year or so ago...
  21. A late night move my guy did the other night. They are pretty big but this truck handles them nicely.
  22. We actually get a lot of vehicles that should have coverage but don't. It's gotten to the point that every time we bring in a 1 or 2 year old Kia or Hyundai I cringe....they always have a lapse of coverage. Have a 20 Tacoma 4wd Ex cab at the shop w/ liability only...we asked the people why would you do that? It's a $40,000 truck?...and it's junk now.
