  1. It was way different times back in our young ride along days. I feel like people actually gave a crap and slowed down for us out there.
  2. Maybe I am a little over reactive but I personally always work off the end of my deck meaning I use a snatch block off the tail to control my pull as opposed to just straight winching off the drum. Especially with an angle pull such as this. It also helps to keep your line wound properly on the drum. I mean, not for nothing you have 2 blocks already set up on your line. Just my opinion.
  3. I am still astounded at the price tag on that. Like you said the truck is useless without it and the manufacturers know it. Just one of those deals where they know they have you by the short n curly ones. Hoping it goes back together easy and gets back on line to earn its keep for you. Good luck
  4. We have been in a similar situation before. My family has always had a call ahead thing going even long before this whole virus mess. We have a semi-long driveway and if your not in the living room then you cant see who or what is coming up. My father -inlaw was once greeted at the side door by my wife ( his daughter ) holding her Glock 23 because he thought he would just drop by. We live in a sleepy little hamlet that most people would think is as safe as can be. Between November and January there were 2 home invasions with one resulting in the home owner being shot and killed in his own home. This one was just a block away from our home. So personally I feel your reaction was warranted and am glad that you and your family are prepared should something horrible happen. Being aware, prepared and TRAINED to handle these situations are essential in the world we live in sadly.
  5. Lucky break... For you.. lol... Just kidding. Better in there then on the highway. Nice job.
  6. Excellent work Sir. Looks like a textbook job. I love seeing the catch bags in use.
  7. She sure is beautiful. It is very cool that you know her history too. 👍 Hey Mr. Resch, Is this truck from your neck of the woods?
  8. I was riding and working with my old man at his age ( and younger ). Both my boys are proficient with basic operations of both trucks. My oldest has faded a bit from riding along as much ( he's 17 and all about his girlfriend right now of course ) But my hope is that 1 or both take over for me when Im ready to hang up my hooks.
  9. Is he filling a cup with sanitizer set out for customers to use?? Im sorry for the language but ......WHAT A SCUMBAG....
  10. I have never seen a set up like that one. I can picture a big ol 72 monte carlo hanging off the back of that truck and "leaning" its massive steel bumper on the rubber. I guess thats why when wheel lifts and roll backs really started to become the norm, a lot of companies boasted about "damage free towing". I remember as a kid, tow companies had that plastered all over their trucks. My fathers included.
  11. That is awesome. My dad would have been super happy to see this. He spent his first 2 tours of duty in Vietnam as a Huey flight mechanic then pilot. He sure loved those Hueys.
  12. I do remember performing the "teeter totter" technique, Dad had a pair of jack stands on each L.D. truck. I cant say i recall the double pole dollies you mentioned. that may have been before my time. The moon caps were a very useful tool to have. I remember using the old heavy rubber floor mats in the trucks for chain protection on trees for winching ( Roundslings and straps werent really a thing yet )or placing them between sling bars and such for bumper protection on certain jobs. It is funny to look back and think of some of the things we did as normal back then that would be considered barbaric by todays standards.
  13. Good to hear. We here have had small quakes before but it is super rare. When we do have one ( and they are small ) everyone freaks out. I am sure it would be comical for someone from your neck of the woods to witness it. Our claim to fame here are blizzards, white outs, sub zero temps for winter and torrential down pours and flooding for spring/summer.
  14. It is amazing to me how this virus affects various areas. My county for instance has 94 cases as of this morning, one of the adjoining counties has 12 then the county on the other side of that one has almost 200 cases. It baffles me that a county that is practically surrounded by two other high case counties has so little.
  15. Wow!!! I hope all is well and no one got hurt.
  16. i do have a set that I keep at the shop and i take them with me when I know I need them. i have plans to build a set of mounts on the wheel lift braces under the deck for them i just havent gotten around to building them yet.
  17. We also donate cars regularly to our local f.d. and they have been kind enough to intergrate us into some of their training senarios. It really helps us to work together more fluidly in real world situations.
  18. Ok sorry I couldnt be of any help. For that price it better be gold plated... WOW
  19. I Thought I may have found one for you from a guy in town here that runs nothing but Vulcan equipment. But it turns out it is from an 894 Which if memory serves right is the 10 ton model. The 896/897's were 12 ton units. Another guy showed me the only one He has for the 896 and it is still on the unit, has been out in the weeds for years and the piston is very pitted and crusty. He still wants $500 for it... I told him he was out of his mind. I will keep a look out for you around here because almost everyone around here has Vulcan gear. I should be able to come up with one that can be rebuilt.
  20. Doubling up when i can to save fuel and mileage. Both vehicles going down town. Whenever possible I grab 2 at once so I dont have to run back and forth.
  21. He already tells his friends that HE is the boss and it is HIS company. LOL. He is the cheapest labor I have ever had. Burger king for lunch, a couple juices and some snacks throughout the day and hes good!!
  22. Welcome. There is mountains of good resources here as well as decades upon decades of experience and wisdom from professionals from all around the world.
  23. Our prayers go out to all involved in this tragety. I hope the tow operator had some sort of advanced warning set up behind the loading process. It would appear from the picture that the semi did not realize the sweeper was stopped in the lane untill it was too late.
