  1. There is a slew of them out there you apply to. Agero. Honk Nsd just to name a couple. they can be found easily on-line. Most you can apply to right on their websites too. keep in mind you will need proper certificates of insurance, business licensing and backround checks for you and any operators you will have hauling vehicles for them. Good luck to you !!!
  2. Get better soon operator. And Dont worry about the rig, She can be fixed up.
  3. You just cant make this stuff up.... At what point does the owner of the disabled vehicle in these situations realize that maybe the guy they called isnt the guy for the job? Not blaming the motor home owner by any means. He called a towing company and the clown that answered told his buddies to hold his beer and watch how cool I am. But he or she had to have that what did I do feeling in the pit of their stomach at some point during the loading process. from what I can see in the pic, Its safe to assume the "tuh truk driver "had to use the wheel lift to help tilt the deck back down. It appears as thought the wheel lift is down on the ground.
  4. It is baffling to me that someone would do that to another company. Dont get me wrong, I dont live in a perfect world where all the tow companies get along in sweet harmony. There is quite a few companies in our relatively small county. There is a group of 3 of us that get along well, help each other out n what have you. Heck, one of my best friends owns and operates the other company thats in my town.We each have keys to one anothers shops. then there are the others who nobody gets along with and we all just steer well clear of each other. Theres always grumblings about who did what and who cut whos throat for a call and so forth. No matter how much I dislike another company or its owner I could never be so vindictive to destroy their equipment. Is business really that scarce in these areas that this kind of crap takes place?
  5. .........Its not clear if the fires are connected........ Who is investigating this??? 4 year olds???? 5 tow trucks burn up in a area in a matter of hours and its not clear if its connected?? These poor guys that had their rigs burned are doomed.
  6. That is just EPIC !!! Your buddy has some sweet looking pickups in the barn there too.. The doodlebug scoots along pretty good. sounds like it runs like a top.
  7. Wishing for a speedy recovery to Operator Brown. I will never understand why people cant move a lane over on a multi-lane highway. I see it ALL the time around here. Are you really saving that much time on your trip by not slowing down a few mph and shifting a lane?? I am sorry to the general motoring public that our presence on the side of the road helping another motorist is such a burden to your busy self centered lives. I am really starting to lose faith in civilization.
  8. Congrats !!!!! Work her hard and keep her shiny !!!
  9. In NY a semi combo with one 53' trailer can be towed on state routes and interstates. On the NYS thruway where double 53' B-trains are allowed can be towed off the thruway to the nearest exit under police escort at speeds not to exceed 30 mph. If memory serves right the max length on state highways and interstates is 185' without a special permit and escort. I could be wrong on that but that is the number that keeps coming to mind. Been many a year since I have been in the heavy towing end of things.
  10. Wow I really was off the mark on my guesses. lol I still think its a muncie style trans which it may be if it came from a dodge or studebaker. Still an awesome machine!!!!
  11. I had the pleasure and honor of meeting Mr. Herring on a couple occasions many years ago. He and my father had known each other for years. A true gentleman and THE definition of a professional Operator. May you rest in peace Mr. Herring, Tell Dad I said Hi when you see him up there.
  12. This Video or one similar should be shown to every new operator. Although this video is very good it does seem to be aimed at youngsters.
  13. Glad to hear he is ok. Its Funny he mentioned a guardian angel pin. My wife just gave me a "driver angel" pin as an early Xmas gift yesterday. She hangs off my dashboard. Im not usually superstitious but these days Ill take all the help I can get out there. Watch your back out there everyone!!!
  14. Out in my neck of the woods, there are only a few actual AAA owned trucks The ones i have seen are either red and white or all white. There are a couple contracted providers here that really doll their trucks up with the AAA logos and such. I cant make out whats written on the body sides so maybe thats the case with this truck.
  15. Another senseless murder...You never know who is gonna come get that impounded car or how mad they are gonna be. Rest easy Operator, your shift is over.
  16. Great job!!!! We are sponsors and supporters of our local cops, kids and toys drive. Its a great feeling to be able to help others in need. Kids in particular.
  17. Although I wont be able to attend I do send my sincerest condolences to Operator Leonhauser's Family, Friends and co-workers. Rest easy Bill.
  18. Lets face it.. There are so many variables involved with these crashes that the only thing that you as the operator can control is your own actions. We must not get complacent when working on the busy roadways. As Mr. Resch stated Dont get lured into a false sense of security because your lights are on, the p.d. is there etc... I have had secondary wrecks occur around me BECAUSE the person slowed up and jerked over to give me room and the next thing you know they are spinning out of control on the snowy roads. We have to watch out for ourselves and think our actions through. Heres wishing Robert all the best. Get well soon.
  19. Congratulations to you!!!! Remember, YOU are now one of those legendary men as well.
  20. Thats incredible... I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I know your pain. the man that murdered my father was on his 3rd dwi when he hit my father. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and supposedly was deported at his release. (He was an illegal immigrant) this was 18 years ago. My father was a vietnam veteran who served 2 tours of duty, spent time as a p.o.w., came home, started a family and a thriving business Only to get killed by a drunk who had no right to even be here. All these years later it is still an incredibly difficult thing for me to accept. I have ZERO pity for anyone who gets behind the wheel after drinking and gets caught. In fact I celebrate when p.d calls me to impound a dwi car. And I always thank the arresting officer because he or she may have just saved someones life.... May your friend rest in peace...... I miss you Dad,.... And yes Dad, Im still Pulling the hooks..
  21. That is the exact problem these days.. these clowns see videos like this and think "well it worked for him or I can do it better" Idk maybe I am wrong, but I just dont recall seeing or hearing about these ridiculous things being attempted 15-20 years ago. And if you did they were isolated instances of stupidity.
  22. Lol. Ill try... here it goes... The rear end running the winch is a early model ford 8.8 housing. very similar to the fabled ford 9 inch rears that we use in our race cars. the transmission used for the winch appears to be a muncie unit but without a serial # it will be difficult to determine exactly what muncie it is. if it only a 3 speed then it isnt the almighty "rock crusher" that many out there may have heard of because that was a 4 speed. As far as the winch goes, I am gonna cry uncle on it. it almost looks as if it is home made. from the pic it looks like the drum is wood.... how did I do?? Lol. Ive always had a thing for old school equipment.
  23. From the Damage its obvious he was operating in the median / left side shoulder. Those center median jobs always give me the creeps.. Very good to hear the Operator is ok.
  24. It has been so heavily modified that it is hard to tell. The grille and front lights are most certainly 1928. But the hood and side shields do look like a later model.
