This topic was created back in July of 2005. Wondering what the rates are today. NORMAL -- You'll have to dig deeper into your pockets if your vehicle gets towed in Normal. The City Council voted Monday to raise the towing fee from $50 to $85 for "nonvoluntary" tows from public or private property. In addition, there will be a $25 fee if a dolly is needed to move a four-wheel-drive vehicle, a $10 processing fee and an increase in storage fees from $5 per day to $12 per day. However, if you're a little short on cash, towing companies now will accept a debit or credit card. The council originally considered the changes July 5 at the prompting of Joe's To…

When the driver went to investigate, he found Garner dead behind his desk with a bullet wound to the head. “I think he got assassinated,” said IMPD Cold Case Detective Greg West. “Whoever killed him, there’s no doubt in my mind that he knew the person who killed him. The way he was shot and how he was shot, it’s from the crime scene we can tell that person who shot John, he knew them.” Misty Villaverde describes her uncle as a “big teddy bear” with a heart of gold…

On Friday morning, Dean Kesler will get up early, put on his work uniform — dark blue pants and shirt with his name above the pocket — and take on the day. As owner of his own service center for the last 62-plus years, Dean’s day has always started like that. But on Friday, it will be different. He will stay home. He may chop some firewood or practice his golf swing. He won’t open up Dean’s at the corner of Indiana 23 and Mayflower Road — just a block and a half from where he and his wife Peg live. He is finally hanging up his wrench. But his uniform? “I’m thinking I will wear it for a week or so around the house after I retire,” D…

City council president Steve Volan says the ordinance isn’t meant to accuse towing companies of being predatory. "The point of the ordinance is to rein in potential predatory towing whether or not it’s actually happening and I think that certainly that was our consensus at our firs…

Tow truck company pushes for better understanding of Slow Down/Move Over law in Indiana INDIANAPOLIS — Every year, people are killed while responding to help others during emergencies and some workers feel people aren't following the laws. Being a tow truck driver is one of the most dangers jobs in America because data shows one tow truck driver is killed every six days. Taking a picture saves Martinsville tow truck driver from possible death MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- A quick photo may be the reason a Morgan County tow truck driver is still on the roads helping people. Brian Wagaman was having a busy night during this week's snowstorm, but there is one call he may never forget. It happened on Highway 67 just outside of Centerton. Wagaman stopped to tow a vehicle out of a deep spin-off accident. Before getting out of the truck to help, he took a picture of the accident with his phone. He says he doesn't normally take pictures of accidents, but due to the nature of the spin-off, he took one for damage liability purposes.…

SOUTH BEND — For the first time in more than three years, the city of South Bend will seek bids for a contract to handle police towing — a move that comes after The Tribune reported on questions about how the city has handled an exclusive deal with one company. A Tribune story last month traced how the city awarded the exclusive contract three years ago to ASAP Towing & Recovery — the lone bidder — despite other firms’ objections about the fairness of the bidding process. The other companies said they did not know of the city’s plans to abandon an on-call rotation and seek a lone contractor. ASAP, meanwhile, had expanded its capabilities with a larger prop…
