  1. Louisville Ky. apparently is stacking them up like cord wood yet, Chicago Il. Seems to be towing from the street right to the shredder ( See Towing without telling ). Talk about both ends of the spectrum..
  2. Thank you sir. I will give it a read.
  3. Dragged him for over a mile?!?!?!? I dont mean to be brash, but her worthless ass should NEVER see the light of day again..
  4. The rock trick is a good idea. I do know a few of the Cso's ( community service officer, Fancy city of Ithaca word for parking enforcement/meter maid ) have resorted to marking the inside edges of the tires or the tread because a lot of the college punks would scrub the marks off the tires and the pavement. I am gonna pass along your rock trick to them.
  5. Well I suppose the first question to ask is do you prefer an intergrated boom/wheel lift or independent wheel lift? My perspective on the matter is basically do you perform alot of recovery work or More run of the mill towing? Not to say that either style cant be used for the other but I personally have always preferred an independent boomed rig for recovery work.
  6. I am curious as to what they would consider "proper warning". Proper warning here would be a parking citation and a chalk mark, 24 hours later, the vehicle is towed if it hasnt moved. But how long are they holding the vehicle prior to disposal? This story makes it seem as if it goes from the street to the shredder almost immediately. Is there no certified letter mailed to the last registered owner? No waiting period before disposal? No vehicle auctions? Theres a lot of holes in this story..
  7. that short wheel base will make her a beast of a plow truck. perfect for any tight accounts you might have.
  8. Took a call from city parking enforcement for a vehicle parked in a "Car Share" space. ( Long story short, car share is a city funded vehicle "loan" program. Basically, you sign up, get the app then you can "borrow" any one of the stratigically placed vehicles throughout the city as long as it stays in the city and is returned within 24 hours.) Some skates, a quick snatch block to straighten it up on the deck and off we went. The customer called to claim the vehicle and stated they couldnt understand the signage. What do you think?
  9. Excellent work Mr. Ed. Theres no better feeling than being able to resurect and refurbish an un-wanted vehicle into something that will serve a great purpose. We did the same with an old ford ranger that was abandoned years back. We went through it top to bottom, gave it our customary paint scheme and set it all up as a light road service/ support vehicle/ parts chaser. We still have it although she hasnt been used much since the downsizing we went through a couple years back. But It doesnt cost me anything to just wait patiently in the barn. Nothing beats bought and paid for rigs and gear. I also applaud your efforts to keep all your guys working through this mess we are dealing with. That is a true leader.
  10. All I can say is wow... He just kept on keepin on... Like nothing happened... Lemme guess, He didnt realize he hit something or MANY things for that matter..
  11. I was taught and always was a "crossed chains" secondary untill about a year ago when I was stopped by dot and they told me that it was illegal to cross them although he couldnt give me a reasonable explanation as to why. I havent since just to appease our road side inspection friends.
  12. I personally prefer the wreckmaster skates, they seem to be more forgiving and flexible than other brands I have tried so they dont get tore up as much. They also seem to get real slick easilly with a lil Wd-40. I know they are a bit pricey and it is probably all in the name but I just feel they work better than the other brands. The ability to interlock two or more together is a great thing too.
  13. Oh I know Stubborn... I "retired" from racing 11 years ago when I bought my towing company after racing off and on since I was 14 years old. I will admit, Its been hard to stay away from it all these years considering my wifes family has also been involved deeply in the racing scene in this region for the past 50 years as well ( I actually met her at a race track Lol ). My Son's pride was hurt more than anything, I build solid, well thought out chassis and roll cages and we only buy and use the very best safety gear so I wasnt too concerned about him getting injured. The car did what it was designed to do and crumpled up in the right spots, absorbing the impact. I tried to just stick to building chassis and engines for other racers in the past to "scratch the itch" but, once our oldest turned 16, he was ready to give it a go. So off we go again...Lmao. Heres a few pics of one of the new ones
  14. Jesus.. What the hell is going on in this world... Do we need to start wearing body armor to perform our duties now? It is bad enough we have to dodge vehicles while working, now we have to dodge bullets.. Rest easy operator. I pray that the assassin is caught and dealt with accordingly.
  15. I am all for mental health workers and applaud their efforts to help people in crisis. ( I have benefited personally from their expertise in a proper setting )But there is a fine line as to where their help could be effective in my opinion. And it is not in their homes or in the place where a mentally fragile person is having a full on episode of violence. Maybe I look at things too simply, But the person needs to be contained, restrained and the violent actions need to be stopped BEFORE these mental health workers step in. And that job is performed by police officers. Whether mentally unstable or not, If your commiting violence against another human or even yourself, then a law has been broken. Police enforce law. that's their job, that is what they are trained and paid to do. 95% of officers can actively recognize a threat and respond appropriately. Of course like any industry there are bad apples. Society continues to coddle the mentally ill all the while villifying our law enforcement professionals. It is coddled so much in society these days that the criminal element uses it and exploits it. As far as trying to perform a job or duties while under gunfire or other acts of violence, I can tell you with absolute certainty that no matter how well trained or prepared you think you are, It is the most mentally and physically stressful situation you could ever be in. Anyone who claims that they werent scared s#!tlless Is lying about what they did. Due to OP-SEC I cant speak of any one direct incident, but I have had to try and stop massive bleeding from gunshot wounds on my team mates ( and myself for that matter ) all the while having to fight back and dodge small arms fire, rpg's and even fight in hand to hand combat. The point I am trying to make is there is no way possible that these under-paid mental health workers can be properly prepared to deal with real actions of violence. More people are going to die on Cuomo and Diblasio's watches. But like Stubborn mentioned, They will get those left wing Lib-tard votes..
  16. Orcas Picture is an excellent example of a properly secured casualty. New Operators should take notice of how his safety chains are run ON TOP of the cross bar. Not secured to it, Not under it, But over. That is a Law up here that is enforced regularly. They get tons of guys with that one. Nice work.
  17. I seriously doubt they will be armed, considering that is what most of these dreamers are complaining about. the fact that armed officers are responding to these complaints and shooting these "disturbed" indivduals when they attack them or someone else. These commie politicians live in a fantasy world and think that the only reason there is violence is because there are guns in the world. And what will happen when these un-armed, social workers get killed by some deranged meth - smoking assailant? Nothing. They will bury the facts of what happened because they cannot allow the public to see that their social experiments have failed. This is just another knee jerk reaction to try and appease the general population that cry foul before any or all the facts are presented. The NY government has always been a communist reactive entitiy as opposed to a proactive one. After any type of tragic situation, they ( particularly commie Cuomo and his minion DIblasio ) start doling out executive orders and law changes like they are giving out candy. A good example is the tragic limo wreck that happened awhile back in Schenectady where 20 people were killed including the driver. The bottom line is, the driver was driving too fast into a poorly state-designed T intersection and the limo suffered a brake system failure. Yet the state government jumped right in and made massive, sweeping reforms into the taxi-limo industry, adding numerous, expensive and almost unachievable mandates that put many small operations out of business nearly overnight. They also charged the limo business owner with criminally negligent homicide x20. This was all done BEFORE the accident was even properly investigated by any competant investigative agencies. The Ny state police ( Cuomos militia )Refused to allow even the NTSB or the FHA examine the wreckage. As far as the intersection, an extra sign was added at the top of the hill warning of the stop sign at the bottom. This is just one example of how incredibly inept and dysfunctional NY government is.This "plan" will fail Like almost all of their other off the hip plans have failed, Yet the left will continue to claim how much better they are making life for us common folk. This state has always had the mindset that there is no such thing as accidents. Someone, somewhere is at fault for whatever happens but it is NEVER their fault. And they will continue to slowly remove our freedoms and rights untill they have total control over everything we do.
  18. During the last points race of the season, My son was leading with 4 laps to go. The track was very rough and tacky and many good cars fell out during the course of the race due to broken components. As my son came off turn 2, it seems that the car broke the right front axle and instantly turned hard right into the wall at approximately 60 mph. It happened so fast my son never took his foot off the throttle. After pounding the wall the car climbed up it and rolled over twice landing on its roof on the back stretch. My son was not hurt but the car was badly damaged. Overall, we had a good season winning 5 races, finishing in the top 5 in every race we entered at 4 different tracks. Along with building a new chassis for my son, I am also putting a new one together for myself for next season. I have been bit by the bug again..
  19. AWESOME!!!!! I want one of my truck !!!! who do I contact??
  20. I was told by the deputy that the driver's wallet I found matched the registered owner / insured so I am more than hopeful that the insurance will be up to snuff. They were a bit concerned that he would try to play the " I wasnt driving " game, but the location of the wallet was right below the drivers door and the eye witness was able to give a pretty good description on him and his clothing, so you know... if it looks like a duck....
  21. No the fob was not in the vehicle. there is a bunch of personal items in the car, Including a car seat and childrens toys though. The witness stated he was alone when he ran off.
  22. Got this call from the county Sheriffs office this evening. Dispatch stated they had a "white sedan" in the ditch on a rural road. On arrival I was informed that not only was the car IN the ditch, but the driver apparently "ditched" the scene as well. The vehicle turned out to be this 2020 Bmw M340i with only 5,500 miles on it. The car went off the road and rode the ditch about 40' before slamming into a large rock / steel pipe culvert across a womans driveway. The impact broke the left front wheel into a dozen pieces, tore the suspension out, shattered the front bumper and carbon fiber lip and sprayed parts and large stones everywhere. The recovery was rather straight forward and came right up and out with little effort. Clean up was quite involved. all parts and pieces were collected, the large stones were set back in place in the culvert and the driveway was raked smooth. During the extensive clean up, I found the drivers wallet in the culvert pipe and turned it over to the Deputy. The "missing" vehicle driver is currently being sought by the sheriffs dept and a law enforcement "hold" has been placed on the car. I even repaired the property owners Biden sign and placed it back in her yard. That was the hardest part of the whole job. 😯
  23. I remember the other accident a few months back involving the army convoy. Maybe there is some sort of procedural systems involved with Carvana that is distracting their drivers? Some computer systems, gps or communications that are used by these drivers? 2 VERY similar collisions involving the same type of equipment, from the same company could be coincidence of course, but it should be something that is investigated further for sure. From the looks of the skid mark, is it safe to assume she was in the live right lane and NOT on the shoulder? My condolences to all involved. Seems to be another avoidable accident.
  24. It would appear that the L.E. presence alone did get traffic slowed to a reasonable speed though the scene. That stretch looks like a high speed area under normal circumstances. And I feel that without their presence, speed reduction would have been minimal, if at all. I have noticed there is usually a 20 m.p.h. further reduction in speeds around my scenes when there is L.E. present. BUT, mistakes were made in my opinion. Cones and signage should have been deployed between the patrol cars and the recovery or at the very least, the gap between them should have been closed a bit. (25'-35 feet from the scene ) Most People simply just dont look that far ahead. By closing the gap some, It would bring the recovery into the drivers periphial vision as they approached the cruisers and hopefully deter anyone from trying to "cut the line' like those 2 vehicles. I most certainly commend the officers on giving the offending drivers a good talking to but again I question the decision to stop them right in traffic. Pull them over properly, ( preferably, in front of the recovery scene ) and WRITE THE SUMMONS. Talking just doesnt seem to be working...
  25. Well, keep in mind, EVERY component has it's working load limit of course. But for the sake of argument and simplicity I would say the limit of pull off the tail board is limited to the w.l.l. of the boom, wire rope and your rigging. Working off the tail board your booms are closed in on center so you have their max rating at your disposal, 2- part the line ( or more if you have the line and rigging ) back to your casualty and multiply your wire rope's w.l.l. etc.. With your truck planted real good and the right rigging, She will pull a mountain.
