  1. Wrecker driver killed while clearing accident debris in Conroe A wrecker driver was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a van while removing debris from a previous car accident on FM 3083 in Conroe, police said. Stanley Schultz, 55, was taken to Conroe Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The van hit Schultz shortly after 7 p.m. in the 100 block of North FM 3083 as police were clearing another car accident in the same location. Patrol cars partially blocked the eastbound lane of traffic and Schultz apparently crossed the road into the westbound lane of traffic to pick up debris. That's when the 2000 Chrysler van traveling east on FM 3083 hit him, police said. The van apparently passed to the left of the marked patrol cars and the driver did not see Schultz in time to try to avoid hitting him, investigators said. Schultz also was not wearing a reflective safety vest as required by state law, they said. Alcohol did not appear to be a contributing factor, but speed and other factors are still being investigated, police said. The van driver and her 10-year-old passenger were not hurt. She was released at the scene pending the outcome of the investigation. RESOURCE LINK ___________________________ I thought it was kind of sorry to imply that it was his fault for not wearing a reflective vest. They didn't say if he was wearing an ANSI II shirt, which is allowed in daytime operation, but regardless people around here do not slow down for accidents and this is the result. Granted he should have been wearing his vest, but the story makes it seems like since he didn't it is his fault. That is one thing I like about my area. When you are loading or cleaning the roadway, 99% of the time and officer is standing beside you watching traffic to ensure no one runs you over. ___________________________ More than 150 Tow411 members replied with condolences and thought's, far too many to copy for the old system.

  5. I don't know, look at it this way. It's just a chip and these truck sit in transport then dealer inventory sometimes for months even when there is a demand for them. So I'm not as concerned with a new build sitting for 9 months as I would be a year plus as the value to me would be lower and you may get into actual problems. I will say though the trucks are being constantly moved and not sitting in one location the entire time. Even at the racetrack I have heard they are being rotated around the lots. I dunno... Think about it as it is quite possible there may be no 22's.
  6. This news video does not provide details of the incident returns. A 71 year old pedestrian was crossing the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle that did not stop. Unsure if this is the same incident.
  7. I know, I also know there a US supplier is has been working to make these chips in the US. It's just one chip and yes the trucks do run and drive without it cause we see them moving them around all the time. Actually Production though slowed has not stopped. And by to looks of the number of trucks headed back to the factory there may already be a supply and that info has not gotten out. Obviously to increase the price to fill the demand. You know that little thing called supply and demand. We're still waiting on new trucks as well.
  8. Actually Ford has been rolling them out. I do not know where they have gone but all the lots they were located in are now empty. The real source would be just how many new trucks are located at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky .
  9. Man sentenced to nearly five years for Fredericksburg crash that killed tow-truck driver A man who killed a tow-truck driver last year by driving into him on the Interstate 95 entrance ramp in Fredericksburg was ordered Thursday to serve four years and eight months in prison. Christopher R. Minor, 30, of Woodford, was sentenced by Judge Gordon Willis to a total of 10 years and six months in prison, with five years and 10 months suspended. Minor was previously convicted in Fredericksburg Circuit Court of DUI-manslaughter and driving without a license. The evidence presented by prosecutor Wenonah Peterson showed that 29-year-old Louis J. Rich was outside his tow truck about 12:35 p.m. on June 11, 2020, when Minor’s 2020 Chevrolet Impala crossed the white fog line and struck Rich and his 2006 International tow truck. Minor said he looked down briefly and accidentally drifted into Rich. At his sentencing Thursday, Minor expressed remorse for the tragedy. Several family members praised Minor as a father and a provider. Peterson asked Willis to sentence Minor to a sentence above the recommended state sentencing guidelines, but Willis settled on an active sentence at the top of the guidelines. Defense attorney Anna Lindemann argued that although Minor had controlled substances in his blood when it was drawn several hours after the crash, a trooper at the scene didn’t notice any signs of intoxication at the scene. She said the levels were so low that it was likely that the drugs were taken the night before. RESOURCE LINK
  10. Driver arrested for allegedly hitting, killing tow truck driver CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A driver has been charged with hitting and killing a tow truck driver who was on the job in West Price Hill. Police note that Ewing had two cones placed behind the disabled vehicle and his tow truck and had his emergency yellow tow lights activated. 11. In the ever-escalating conversation about increasing the number of zero-emissions vehicles on Colorado roadways, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles typically have taken a backseat to those fueled by other kinds of batteries. But AAA Colorado is hoping to change that. The century-old nonprofit auto club has announced an agreement with Denver-based New Day Hydrogen LLC in which it will introduce America's first hydrogen-powered tow trucks and other emergency rescue vehicles in Colorado. As part of the partnership, New Day Hydrogen will design and construct stations to create hydrogen fueling by electrolysis, a process that creates emissions-free hydrogen from water and renewable energy, in anticipation those stations eventually will open to the general public. Hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles, like more popular lithium-battery-powered EVs, produce no tailpipe emissions, but advocates note they can charge up cars and trucks more quickly in many cases and are more resistant to cold temperatures that can plague Colorado. But critics have argued this source of power is less efficient than batteries proliferating on the market and that the special stations needed to fuel them are rarer, particularly with governments like the state of Colorado funding a slew of battery-charging stations. AAA officials, however, believe that by working with a local company to push forward such technology in the state in a way that it can be seen by a wider audience — particularly anyone needing roadside assistance from the nonprofit — it can accelerate the hydrogen movement. The organizations are aiming for the fleet of hydrogen-powered tow trucks to be on the road in 2022. "Adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology will help Colorado reach its carbon-reduction goals, as fuel-cell electric vehicles offer vehicle owners the same performance and experience as their current vehicle with no lost time to charging, and no range anxiety,” New Day Hydrogen CEO Seth Terry said in the announcement. Gov. Jared Polis has made it his goal to get 940,000 electric vehicles on the road by 2030, even as there are just about 35,000 on state highways now. To accelerate that transition, the Legislature this year passed a $5.3 billion transportation funding bill that is heavy with spending on charging stations across the state and incentives for even lower-income residents now priced out of the EV market to be able to consider purchasing one. A number of automakers, including Toyota and General Motors, have begun producing hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles already, and some 8,000 are estimated to be on California roadways. Skyler McKinney, AAA regional director of public affairs, compared the group’s activism for hydrogen fuel cells to its push a century ago to popularize the individual automobile as a means of transportation.
