“RVs come in all shapes and sizes”, Cain says. “The first thing is to narrow it down to the size of RV you are requested to move. Become familiar with the classes of RVs (A, B, C), and the types: rear pusher, tour bus conversion, etc.” Class A is the largest type, which is mounted on a truck or bus chassis. Class B is the middle-of-the road size, usually on a pickup-style chassis. Class C is the smallest drivable RV, usually a van front with a sleep area over the cab. Rear pushers are just that-with the engine in the rear, pushing the unit down the road.” Want to know more about RV towing? How would you tow this EV RV? I doubt that it can be towed with any wheels on the ground and it curtaining isn't going on a regular roll back. Possibly a Heavy Duty Carrier or a Sliding Axle Trailer. Either way transporting them could be a challenge to some. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a38803078/winnebago-electric-camper-van-photos-info/

I got a tow today for a coach with no brakes. It was in a heavily wooded RV park going to a repair center about 20 miles away... Stumps, boulders & lots of trees in perfectly poor locations... Took me a while to wiggle out but we got it... a "PITA" but we got a G note for the job so I can put up with a little aggravation

Never fails...4:30 on a Friday Night and a Heavy comes in.... Large motor home coming up a steep mountain pass blew a coolant hose & shut down. Customer was on their way to Pocono Raceway for a Camper gathering... Dam thing was hanging out in the lane on a steep hill. To make matters worse, the one occupant was in very bad health and in a wheel chair which was going to be difficult to accommodate. I decided to let them ride in the coach for the 2 miles to the track rather then stressing over other options... Towed him to the park where he was going to find a mobile mechanic to repair the coach... …

I got a call yesterday to move a class B RV on a Mercedes chassis to an RV dealer. When I got there the left rears duals had come off it. When I used my tall forks on the frame rail I could not get the rear wheels high enough off the ground. Adding a 4x4 on the fork I was able to wedge the 4x4 between the fork and the trailer hitch on the rear end. I took a lasso strap and went around the frame and the 4x4 on the front side so it could not kick it out sideways. I strapped the lasso to the bottom of the fork receiver hole which I figured created down pressure there and strapped the trailer hitch to the cross bar in the back. Even after I got the back high enough, I h…

Had to pick up a Fire Truck the other day for a brake problem. It always amazes me how heavy these trucks can get... This truck handles weight like a dream....the counter weight keeps the steer axle firmly on the ground... Found it to be the Slack Adjuster Pins seized in the yoke and wasn't letting the brake to completely release. A quick inspection, repair and we delivered it back to their facility.

I have a request to impound this 1968 Seagrave Fire Truck from the Park Service day after tomorrow. Its on a different Island requiring a ferry ride away so I can not lay eyes on it to get a game plan. Ill be taking my 1981 KW W900A tandem with a 750 Holmes/Z20 Zacklift. Hoping for some old schoolers here to advise: Air or hydraulic brakes? Not sure if its auto or manual transmission, pull the shaft with either way on this old dog? Id love to grab it by the rear but unsure of frame strength near the rear bumper for forking? Thank you.

Phillips Towing 202 Created the topic in August or 2006: This is the second time in less then a week Andrew has had to tow this thing. First time was for a very minor problem but this time it's cause the turbo is gone!! As Andrew said "Just another day at the Fayetteville office". Truck2 said: Just curious, and not meaning to put s**t on your job, but has anyone done a scale comparison of front axle weights with the crane in the front and rear positions? Phillips Towing 202 said: Mark, I spoke with Andrew the driver of our 60 ton. He said that by swinging the boom to the front not only does …

I got a call yesterday for a 40 foot diesel pusher stuck at a winery. I get there and it doesn't look like it is stuck bad. This one had Independent suspension up front, no straight axle, generator up front with a low exhaust pipe exiting on the driver side in front of the tire. I asked him to open up the front bumper to see if there were any access point to the frame, no luck. On my second look underneath to find a place to hook to I see the broken shock mount on the passenger side. I take a picture and show it to the owner, thankfully I had not even had a chain or strap near it yet. He asked me if that would make it shimmy at about 45mph. The only…

Ok guys I get calls from time to time about RV needing towing and I always usually turn them down because the wheel grids for my underlift weight about 150lb each and most RV's don't have full chassis so I can't use forks. Well a couple days ago Road America calls needing a RV towed and I told them I didn't have time about a hour later they call back and say they still need a tow so I ask where is it and where is it going. It was about 15 miles from me and loaded miles another 61miles away so just under 80 miles from drop off back home. Again I don't do many RV's so I'm thinking I'll just give them a I don't want to do it price and they will leave me alone. Keep in mind…

It was a Motorhome at the Port of Oakland going from one yard to another. It was used as a sleeping quarters for truckers of a company. They were trying to get it to the other yard on its own power when it just stopped and died. It would not turn on anymore. Bob told me to take #130 and head to an address. Once I got there I saw the vehicle and got into position to hook it up. Once I got it hooked up I tried to move it forward and backward to see if the brakes were the problem. The owners released some brake fluid from the lines. That didn't solve the problem though, so I took a quick look at the back and saw it was a pusher motor. I was not going…

A local competitor just towed a single axle pusher motor home backward by forking the Reese tow receiver. Is this ok? I thought I read years ago that towing a motor home backwards by the frame the whole unit could flex and blow side windows out? Thoughts? Anyone here tow them backwards?

All loaded up for the mainland run in the AM. Axles pulled, axle caps on, front axle chained up, tow bar set, safety chains on, air ran to tank, air ran to brake buddy, tow lights on. After thought that I could have pulled driveline, thoughts either way? One bugger about pulling shafts is that I have to pull caps once dropped @ repair facility... Decided to use the tow bar, could have forked it but also but simple to set bar. Feenstras said: like pulling driveshafts. Less mess and quicker. Orcas Tow said: Next time I'm going for the driveshaft first, hindsight is 20…

I don't know about you guys...But I hate towing buses... These actually aren't too bad but I guess I just like to hear myself bitch...LoL This was the second one this week for a coolant leak. I wish I could do them from the rear but they lean terribly... this is 1 I did a few weeks ago and I didn't have a choice (obviously). But their driveway entrance is tough and it's hard enough gowing from the front.

Towing is a scary subject. No one wants to even remotely consider the possibility of having to tow a piece of apparatus. However, any fire apparatus technician will tell you that towing apparatus is a reality, and the horror stories will usually follow. MYTH OR TRUTH? There are many towing myths, and my job is to unravel the myths and get to the truth. Myth: Electrical components, engines, and transmissions will never fail on any of our apparatus. The truth is that electrical components, engines, and transmissions do fail. The truth is also that accidents do happen and apparatus does break down. All tow companies train their operators to to…

In the UK 4 axle buses are not allowed ….. so we have never had to tow one.....or ever had to crawl underneath one... Spotted this one in Europe on the Spanish / Portuguese border. manufactured by Neoplan…... 4 metres high the engine is in the rear. We have done lots of 3 axle Neoplans which look similar to this but shorter they suffer a lot from engine fires.....very difficult to tow with all the rear wheels and airbags burnt out, 😐
