  1. Nobody can beat the guys unload times though.
  2. Looks like they do come with a badge but like so many companies that do a wrap advertising on thier vans many take off as many emblems as they can for a better look. I am trying to get into the habit of always looking for them extra axles but man I forget a lot. You can see it in the vid at 1:10
  3. We are experiencing the same thing in CA. Once they take the call the tow is fast so that's good. It's just getting through that is the problem. We have to call our CHP dispatcher to call them in they must have a special number that they actually answer for Police. I tell people to try the online tool or they App but they report to me it just locks up. Hate to see AAA going down, they were the gold standard!
  4. NIce!! Hope she gave him a tip! oh nevermind.
  5. Girls were wearing thier safety vests. thats GOOOOOOD!! Looked up the US DOT number seems it's one of this guys old trucks. Have not cleaned off the numbers yet. Sad story but a tail of precaution. Have some systems in place in case your health or that of a family member goes south. Villalobos Towing seems to be the current owner based on the phone number. https://villalobostowingllc.business.site/ Associated Towing & Recovery LLC September 6, 2018 · It's Been a hard road my wife got cancer so while I was taken care of her my family and employees were helping themselves to my money and Business to the point I had to close it down it's sad I dont care how successful a business is it cant sustain the damage that was done the embezzlement equipment loss and no justice I have been wronged in so many ways it's not easy to borrow or get money nobody wants or likes to help you! I almost lost my wife twice I thank God for giving her that second chance but my company didnt get one but I'm keeping faith that God will help me get her back up and going again I really miss helping people and towing and transports that was my passion did it all my life it's all I know but anyway for the ones who didnt know well now u do Thank you and God Bless the ones who it stick it out with me! Sorry to ruin the party vibe!!
  6. Think too many companies count on the common sense of thier drivers. May not always be the best strategy.
  7. Saw this video from the Hawaii FSP of operators wearing helmets. Looks like a good style. small enough to wear while driving, not to bulky, can still hear conversation. Researched it more and found out it is a Skateboarding helmet. Not sure it is rated to help in a 60MPH impact but aside from a motorcycle helmet I am sure not much else is either.
  8. > A hard hat should be worn ... or incident where a "struck by" injury to the head may occur. So basically that's every incident when you are working in a roadway yes?
  9. Responder Safety Learning Network just put out a module on helmets. Some Good info in there. Helmets and Head Protection for Roadway Incidents Much of it coming from this article: https://www.fireengineering.com/technical-rescue/roadway-incident-operations-what-is-the-right-helmet-for-the-job/
  10. As important as having them is it is also important to tell your folks how and when to use them. We are instructed the Ext is for our truck only. Any other fire, that's the fire departments business. Especially with hybrids and such you do not want your folks anywhere near a car fire. Let it burn!!
  11. I love the camera man setting the scene walking though the homeless encampment. Ah yes a video from California! LOL
  12. Another Tow company took the bait. Some employees facing criminal charges for sure. Remember guys the sidewalk is not your property.
  13. I saw a guy today do a similar thing of unspooling (pulling) his cable on the traffic side with his back to traffic. You know it works just as well if you pull it out on the other side of the car??? You reach the same distance!!!
  14. California Plates, all you need to know. When she said I just came from my storage facility. What she means is I just came from where I live.
  15. > Wouldn't that be distracted driving if you were watching the camera to drive rather than the road? That's your take away? Tower nearly clipped this guys rear bumper and sent him into the next lane then has the audacity to think the other guy is the bad driver. Tower was in a left turn "ONLY" lane and went straight. Thank goodness the guy was watching his mirror or camera or whatever and saw the guy coming to get out of the way. But like he said the tower does this all day every day!! Damn hope not.
  16. > If they enter your scene (space) then ask them to back up for their safety. Thats a good basic rule to follow but you have to stress the following. Do not single them out because they are holding a camera. If the general public is allowed in an area someone holding a camera is also allowed. So how this translates to our business is if a camera person is standing on the sidewalk next to the truck and pedestrians are walking by also then you really have no leg to stand on. If you are actually concerned for thier safety then get with the police at the scene to close a sidewalk or have them put up some tape to allow an area for a flying broken winch cable. And you made a designation about them being not associated with the scene. A bystander. in the US once a person starts gathering information with a camera, notebook or observing the scene they are now a member of the press. And our first amendment grants them protection to do thier job. Your employees interfering with that could run afoul of some laws in some states. In CA for instance the Bane Act. https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=CIV&sectionNum=52.1.
  17. OOUCH start at 20:25 to cut out the Trash talking at the beginning. But media training is not a bad idea for a job that might regularly be performing in front of cameras.
  18. Are the rear wheels strapped somehow in the dollies?? Do you do that or just let them sit in the dollies without straps?
  19. Ah this was in Toronto. They been having some big problems lately, good to see a fist fight and not a shooting or arson. Progress!!
  20. Looks like he was standing behind the car trying to get a picture of it probably so a damage claim would not be levied against him. Maybe we should get these claims adjusters from the roadside providers to come out and take pictures of thier clients cars and they can stand next to traffic going 70mph. Our motto should be HOOK AND GO. Not messing with cameras on the side of the road.
  21. Yea did not even get into the safety aspect. Does not even look at traffic going back to truck. But thats common, guys get complacent.
  22. Good question, see if I can run them all down: 1. No use of emergency flashers when stopped on the shoulder 2. Un-tucked Shirt 3. No Name tag 4. Failure to give a Program Brochure 5. Failure to give a Program Survey Card (so folks can report stuff like this) 6. Use of foul language. 7. Discourteous 8. Failure to obtain a refusal of service liability release (I am assuming the driver of the vehicle just gave this guy the finger or something like that since I do not hear thier side of the conversation) 9. Failure to affix a CHP form 422 to the rear of the vehicle (if service was actually refused)
  23. 23 1/2 service I like that. Like that old Joke: Store has a sign up that says open 24 hours. Guy comes at 3am and they are closed. Guy comes it the next day and asks the owner "Hey man I came here at 3am last night and you guys were closed but your sign say you are open 24 hours, what gives??" Owner: Well not 24 in a row.
