  1. Good job Grumps! Those types of "community relations" jobs are imho more rewarding that dollars, & are great for our industry!
  2. Just wanted to cover this subject here. It will be the topic of our weekly safety meeting. Today we recieved a call to recover a pickup truck that was in the rear of a residence against an above ground pool. I decided to take our Jerr Dan Cougar as it was unclear from the customer how far off the driveway it was. So, once I arrived, the customer told me the details: the truck would not start, they called for a tow, a wheelift arrived, hooked up, ( obviously, NO SAFETY CHAINS) then proceeded out of the driveway. There is a continuous 10° grade uphill & when the wheelift crested the grade, the Silverado got loose, careened down the driveway backwards, hit & totaled 1 car, narrowly missed the heat pump & electric service to the house & ended up approximately 135 feet in the rear of the home. Had it no hit the pool frame, it would have continued into the woods Thank God no one was in the driveway or the backyard of the home. No photos of the recovery, but I felt it was worth mentioning here so that other "towers" would consider this when practicing "hook & book"
  3. My personal favorite when someone asks for advice "this advise is worth exactly what you paid for it, NOTHING!"
  4. The window was covered by the customer before we arrived, we use crash wrap if we cover broken glass.
  5. Thanks Grumps, we've been using this technique for stolen wheels for years. Recently, we purchased 2 sets of Guni wheels (both sizes) as we had a spree (15+) of wheel thefts in parking garages, usually on the upper floors. But, neither set of Guni wheels fit the 2021 Blazer so we had to go old school with the carrier dolly system.
  6. Recieved this call yesterday morning. The customer parked near the entrance to the hotel, (75 feet from the front door), checked in & spent the night. This is what she found in the morning! Placed go jacks under all 4 wheels, pushed out of parking place then installed the carrier dolly system loaded & delivered to the shop. The customer was heartbroken over what happened to her new Blazer.
  7. Thanks for the info. I am trying to aquire this entire truck. It is the first "new unit" ( the body that is) that was purchased & used by the original owner of our company. He often spoke of how he towed anything that came along & how great its recovery capabilities were...He drove it & parked it there in 1979...I remember it!!!
  8. Found this next to a barn. Looks to be on a 50 ish Ford. Any idea what Holmes model this is?
  9. Our government, hard at work for us. I recall that is how the end of Nissan Diesel America (UD) began.
  10. The car had a crushed right quarter panel & the exhaust was wrapped around the rear end...surely totaled as it was a 91 Town Car. I am just glad it didn't happen when anyone was around the car...could have been a real tragedy. I LOVE my Jerr Dan "Cougar". By far the most versatile truck I've ever used. Ever since I had the Mico brake lock installed it's a winching BEAST!
  11. No intersection within 1/3 of a mile, road ended 150 feet from the incident. Driver was beyond nervous....so who knows.
  12. Was called by a local shop for a small pickup "slightly" off the road near the cul de sac on a dead end street. There was no mention of a tree, just unable to get out on his own. I wonder why? Took my carrier bed and extended it between the truck & tree, tilted the bed up & was able to winch it off the tree w/o further damage. There was suprising little damage to the truck, but not the case with the tree.

  14. Got a call from an older gentleman this morning. He stated that he thought his car had been stolen, called the local police, then discovered this! Old Lincoln had jumped out of park & rolled down into a ravine behind his home. Used 2 lines to steer it between the trees as I was unable to enter the car in th position it was in.
  15. Gee, I wonder what could happen to the rear or driveshaft. It's just a few pieces of firewood. Lol
  16. I towed for a Chrysler, Plymouth dealership way back when, & they had a service writer that referred go the Dynasty as a "Die-Nasty". Lol.
  17. I have used "super swedged" 3/8 to avoid this problem, but it is super stiff as well. It seems to be better against kinks or crushing but it can be difficult to keep straight on winch drum.
  18. Update...this 40 Buick got a new paint job. I had unloaded it before the pics. I like its new duds!
  19. Macbook pro, but thats pricey..I felt the same way , but after usunig my daughters 13 inch macbook air, I found the display great & purchased one for myself. It could be the retina display that made it eady on these old eyes.
  20. Macbook air, 16 gig RAM, 512 QUAD CORE INTEL...ITS A BEAST!!
  21. I stand corrected in regards to long shank J hooks. Thanks Grumps!
  22. I have used the same method for the last 35+ years. I would be happy with that method as your employer.
  23. Just a 400 small block, but that truck was sweet!
