  1. i see it here a lot people using 1 or 2 500LB supper cheep ratchet straps to hold 2kLB atv / side by side / lawn tractor all down to a trailer and there also not even pulling the load down to the trailer the right way as you can watch it roll all over the place on the trailer . heck 1 day i saw a fly by night paver guy his roller unit had ZERO straps or chains on it . o.m.g. that was scary to have ever seen . my old boss one time had to go pick up a rolled small suv the local rental shop let leave with a equipment trailer and mini excavator on it . he got 15 miles down the highway and it started whipping and fishtailed and rolled him / trailer / equipment all in the middle of the 4 lane 65mph highway blocking both lanes the 1 direction . i with the cops had more time and energy here to start cracking down on all these things .
  2. never ever be in the line of fire if you can help it . years ago i was at a 4x4 play day event a friends truck got stuck in a swamp hole . they had a d-4 size dower there and hooked up a strap to it . the strap popped and i yelled out " and this is why chains are a dead mans tool anymore " the strap puffed up / popped and dropped . but no one was in the dead zone of the strap . now if that was a chain the links would have been bullets flying all over the place . i also wont pull on a load if people are walking around with no respect to the work area rules and safety rules for the area .
  3. parking / e-brake keeps half the load off the TINY parking brake paw inside the trans you do NOT want to tear inside of to try and fix . i used mine on the c5500 gm truck i use to drive and never had a problem . and the 1 time i needed my e-brake lever to work i knew it would since i had always used it in the past .
  4. i use to work with a guy who called in late for day light savings time . . . . . but he was 1/2 a year off time for it and he was also on the wrong half of the time flip . . . 🤣🤣🤣
  5. i always was as nice as i could be . we meet them at there worst a lot of times so why make it even worse . my favorite line i use to say was " i don't need to be here you called me i can just leave " if they don't wish to play nice after this then i would have just left . never had to say it tho .
  6. not saying this to the o.p. of this thread just in general . dont forget the seat belt threw the steering wheel and seat back tight . and for the newer euro based vans now some are front wheel drive and some rear wheel drive so always check first . otherwise i never minded hookin a 2nd on the back of my rollback when i was towing . sometimes i had to tell the boss just let me i got this . seems a lot of his older crew back in the day didnt understand wheel lift towing .
  7. you guys did see the front plate is not us size . so i am betting some 3rd world jungle mountain side backwoods stuff going on there with the stuff i saw and how far the vehicle went over and gone .
  8. https://www.guardianangeldevices.com/m/towtruck-safety-light/#0 that is a slick device for sure . link for others who dont have time to search it .
  9. my old boss has a tow dolly unit and when he get a cal every so often for the 2 parking towers in town he hooks it to the pickup goes in and uses a come along and straps it on and out he goes . then if need be swap to a flat bed or other unit as needed . now i know this can be a problem with todays auto set e-brakes and awd and hybrid stuff but its a option . so if you had 1 and a set of dollys off a wrecker truck you could scoop it up easy to get it out if you get a call or 2 a year for this .
  10. i have heard there trying to go away from flares a bit cause if there is a big wreck and fuel is spilled it could be a problem . were as my led hockey pucks dont emit a open flame . i also noticed with cones i got some respect from traffic slowing and moving . but when you stick them red led hockey pucks out i got a TON more respect from them . i tended to use what i figure was needed at the time as most of us tend to do a lot . its just good to have backup plan and options .
  11. i also had these for night time use or if i needed a little extra on the truck or tailgate of a wheel lift vehicle being towed . i was always waiting to loose one from the magnets on todays thin metal but i never did and new york upstate has some bad roads . all my local PD and FIRE guys loved them at night time . 6hr burn time on full charge / 9 patterns / water proof to 36feet / and more . . . . bonus they sit on a road cone top also real night to have a cone AND led flashing . i got the recharge ones so i do not need to change batteries out . they come with a usb cord and 110 and 12 volt adapter so you have 3 ways to charge .
  12. euro based / designed truck for all the tight small roads over there . she sure is sexy tho .
  13. if we are picking then on your LE past can be be found guilty of killing someone with to many lima beans ? since they have traces of cyanide in them in raw form . 🤨 😀 Like many legumes, the seemingly innocent lima bean should not be eaten raw — doing so can be lethal. (And who wants to die in such an ignoble way as death by lima bean?) Also known as butter beans, the legumes can contain a high level of cyanide, which is part of the plant's defense mechanism. Here in the U.S. there are restrictions about cyanide levels in commercially grown lima bean varieties, but not so in less developed countries, and many people can get sick from eating them. Even so, lima beans should be cooked thoroughly, and uncovered to allow the poison to escape as gas. Also, drain the cooking water to be on the safe side.
  14. i never mix work with pleasure ! and the smell of 2nd hand weed burning makes my gut want to barf big time . never cared to try it or do it . a few drinks now and then ya fine i enjoy them . but if i have been drinking i will not go to work at all .
  15. when i was towing i use to befriend the cops and chit chat a little if there was time and the area was safe . i would explain a few simple things and reasons why we do things . i noticed this starting to pay off the more i did this . 1 night we had a stolen car chase and crash . the cops called for the tow and said bring the extra cable . i was so glad they did this as i was able to use the 100ft length of cable along with my bed and 50ft on the bed winch to keep my self on hard pack and get the car to me and loaded up . also the fire department guys were not cutting the battery cables but the main engine & trans wiring harnesses and costing the insurance people to spend more than needed or total a car out . we started showing them were and what to cut and not cut and how to cut the wire 1 time to make it so you can hold it to power up yet be cut of power .
  16. air ride but setup correctly so the air is cushy but holds the full load as needed . most air rides are a bit over stiff if you ask me but thats prob factory covering there butts for legal and warranty .
  17. sounds like the winch cable popped or the hook come flying off . re watching a 3rd time the rollback was flat towing it up and out . they were not even using the winch . me i would have had a extra chain to the pass side of the bed on the rollback for just this crazy thing knowing the HUGE drop off it would be going down . also if there was room i would have put my bed down / snatch block in end of bed pass side / side pull / 2 wheel straps or bridal to full driver side wheels or under vehicle points / set ebrake and then slowly pull and move the whole vehicle sideways back up on to the road . setting the ebrake would keep it from rolling anymore also to give you a direct path your pulling from . done this a few times over the years and works great . you can also do a 45* pull setup almost the same and winch on 1 end and chain in the other and winch / bed in / winch / bed in / winch / bed in and get the same results . oh ya dont let the customers or bystanders help EVER !
  18. but the few of us true towers in the industry can say we are TOW TRUCK / WRECKER OPERATORS .
  19. no way to keep it this low and under 10ft in width i can see . i took and machined out the lips of the 2 main i-beams on both sides to let the unit be sucked in so tight it gives just the room needed . i understand the permit problems . but this was not designed to be used on a everyday i know all the roads and vehicles and rules job . it was made for the oh crap the cops are screaming down my neck to get the highway open asap and just get it out of here and my road cleaned up . i do thank you for the feedback TTOUT and understand your comments . i do know its a hard deal to get sold on the idea and use . i know some areas it will not be used for legal or other reasons . but i am sure there is the 1 tow company that will see its usefulness and pick it up and add it to there fleet of recovery tools .
  20. maybe update the class rules to state NO certification will be given to any one who is not fully participating to the class such as use of texting or cell phone or tablet devices unless there required for medical reasons such as hearing impared type cases . i am sure people would think 2x on using them if they know they wont get the cert the paid to get for 100% participation in class . also a basket in the front of the class for all devices to be put in and turned off also might work . i have a stupid phone so i dont play with it and get in trouble . plus i know its rude !
  21. 2 strap required = fail safety chains required = fail after dragging a low curb like this always re-check load = fail backing up to far in to car after = fail fixing the car in the middle of a busy intersection = fail needs training or see ya later if he just dont care . i am not saying i was 100% perfect but watch / learn / ask questions / watch videos on youtube in the off / slow times ask for help to use the equipment correctly .
  22. i would have put my rollback / tow truck on the slower ramp and this was were the cop was also . stay away from the fast drivers . yes the white suv was at fault but a lot of the problems in this video with heavy traffic flow and everyone slowing down fast and panicking could have been avoided with the tow vehicle off the MAIN road on put on a less heavy traffic road such as the off ramp in my opinion . then the driver / operator had no major safety colors on ansi or not . i always hated this when i seen it . i even saw guys in shorts / flip flops and tee shirts at crash calls . at least toss on a vest or safety color shirt if your in that much of a hurry and some good boots or shoes . i admit i did not have ansi approved full uniforms but i ALWAYS had a HIGH VIS vest or hoodie to wear with 3M reflective stripes on it . and the last few i had also had the orange vis behind the 3m stripes .
  23. when i say road side help i mean services done on the side of a active road way such as : flat tire change out / bring gas / other small things ? when i was towing 98% of the time the spare was flat / or dead / or newer vehicles with no spare . also around 95%-98% of gas calls were not out of gas but dead fuel pump or other mechanical problems or you eat the gas and delivery service as the customer lied to the road side provider or dispatch and had no money . my old boss basically told customers we will tow you to a tire shop or gas station . then if its gas related before the vehicle is off loaded pull to the pump and have them pay for 5 gal of gas and then try and start . if it starts great charge for a tow and unload . if not find a shop to tow the vehicle to . then for tires just let the tire shops do this work as lots of spares are stuck up under the vehicle / have to take 1/3 the inside apart o get to the spare crank guts / flat spare / no spare . with all the major m.v.a hits and deaths of our fellow towing / service providers out there and people not doing there part to slow down and move over for the LAW why not just hook it and book it . ? this was the policy of my old boss when i was towing and man did it make a lot of people happy to not me on the side of the road with us trying to do the service work that most times was a waste of time to begin with at least in my area of the country . worst case we towed them to the nearest off ramp or parking lot even just to get out of the danger zone . please post up your felling on this and lets see if we can come up with some good new ways to keep ALL of our towing & service providers safe out there .
  24. yes but how high does the trailer put the load off the ground ? my unit is 1ft at the low point of the pans for tires . you cant tow a double bunk sleeper unit tractor on most all trailers and clear 13f 6" height . you will be a good 3-4 foot over and then what do you do ? lots of times working in a tight area try getting a trailer in and loaded up . the trailer takes up more storage lot space = less money per spot for impounds and wrecks to sit . my old boss has his dolly and a landoll trailer and a few other 2 car trailers . he has used the landoll 1 time in the almost 5 years i worked there and that was just to help a friend move a backhoe that ran and drove a long distance . he has used his dolly unit a lot more than he has ever used the landoll trailer . he also has a fleet of 15+ trucks from roll backs to heavy wreckers . and his shop is directly behind a interstate highway with many exits in the area and tons of traffic including big trucks . i understand your point above tho and respect it . but also look at this from my units point of view and think it over .
  25. anyone with feedback or idea's ? all of us pro's on here and tons of views and not 1 word . the guy who has the green wheel one loves his and would not trade it or sell it . he said the times he uses it its the best tool in his hand bag of good working no extra b.s. equipment he has . less storage space and no plates or insurance or extra driver needed for it . https://www.ebay.com/itm/303303343873
