In Memory of Danny Casselo who said in 2008:
If I remember correctly there were 39 Q 40s built and only 11 Q 50s built. At a distance its hard to tell them apart but the Q 40 has a 4 part line to the block and the Q 50 has a 5 part line to the block.
njChuck said in 2008:
George Mackey Hightstown, NJ. Has one .That one also belonged to Guaranteed Motors No. Brunswick, NJ., also, and recently switched it over from the gas engine to a cummins.
Mark Redman added to the topic back in 2008:
This is a great thread! Nothing like the old heavy duty stuff. In the next few days, I hope to scan several more of these Silent Hoist rigs and will post the photos when time permits. Glad to share info and photos with everyone. To repeat what some of you have already brought out in this thread, here is a rundown of the Silent Hoists that I am aware of.

As we prepare for our Semi-Annual Roll Call, I want to get back on these Monthly TowForce Membership Lists. If your screen name appears on the List I ask that you take a moment to add a reply. Thanks for being a continuing TowForce Member.
Also, we need supporters in order to bring back the monthly giveaways, attend towing events, hopefully have a return to those popular meet & greets at some point. In addition this new message board has monthly expenses and we do get or did get compensated for time. Katkiller aka Chris has been covering the event costs the past couple of years. We need to get a realistic budget moving forward. I will be asking for member support each month as a new member list is post.
I want to also take this time to thank each and everyone of you for your participation and we hope to see you at a towing event in 2022. Check TowForce regularly for Industry News, Rollcalls and much more.

Does this make sense to anyone?
The article states the landlord says these were Stolen Cars.
Has anyone picked up, towed, recovered, etc. Stolen Vehicles without an officer present.
I don't know anyplace that the officers do not have to remain with the vehicle until it is towed.

Woman hurt after hitting tow truck on I-70 in Callaway County
Missouri State Highway Patrol
A pickup truck driven by Helen L., Gabris, 57, of St. Peters, Missouri, crashed into the back of a tow truck on Sunday afternoon,
according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Crews took Gabris to a hospital with moderate injuries.
CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A woman was hurt on Sunday afternoon after she crashed into a tow truck parked on the shoulder of westbound Interstate 70.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a pickup truck driven by Helen L. Gabris, 57, of St. Peters, Missouri, crashed into the back of the tow truck near the 153.6-mile marker just before 5 p.m.
ccording to the crash report, the tow truck had its emergency lights turned on.
Troopers said Gabris hit a third car after she drove the pickup truck back onto the interstate.
Crews took Gabris by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia with moderate injuries. MU Health Care told ABC 17 News on Monday morning that Gabris is in fair condition.
No one else was hurt in the crash.

Tow truck driver killed in Route 1 crash with tractor-trailer
A tow truck driver was killed early Monday in a crash with tractor-trailer on Route 1 in North Brunswick, authorities said.
Edward Smith Jr. was attempting to make a left turn from Adams Lane onto Route 1 north when an oncoming tractor-trailer slammed into the tow truck, according to North Brunswick police.
The impact of the 12:20 a.m. collision threw Smith from the tow truck and pushed it into a parked car at an auto dealership, police said.
Smith, 41, of North Brunswick, was pronounced dead at the scene after police and emergency workers attempted life-saving measures, according to Capt. Brian Hoiberg.
Though the investigation is ongoing, no charges are likely to be filed, Hoiberg said.
Route 1 was closed for several hours as crews worked to repair a damaged utility pole and clean up a fuel spill. One lane is still shut as of 11:30 a.m.
Anyone with any information about the crash is asked to call officer Jason Vallese at 732-247-0922 x320.

Car slams into tow truck making U-turn on Interstate 75, killing West Park man
A car slammed into a loaded tow truck as it made a U-turn on the interstate Monday night, killing one and seriously injuring two others.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 31-year-old Lauderhill man had stopped on Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 87 in Collier County to load a disabled work van in the eastbound lanes. He was facing west.
After loading the van, he attempted to turn around on Alligator Alley, leaving from the south paved shoulder about 9:40 p.m.
A car driven by a 31-year-old West Park man was heading east when it hit the back of the tow truck, killing a passenger, a 30-year-old West Park man.
The car driver suffered serious injuries, as did a passenger in the tow truck, a 32-year-old Lauderhill woman.
The tow truck and the car came to a rest in the median, while the van was thrown into the interstate.

Are you aware the number of Police Vehicles which have been struck in 2021 compared to previous years.
Did you know more Police Officers have been Struck and Killed than Tow Truck Operators this year.
According to Todd Leiss there were 29 Law Enforcement Officers, 22 Tow Truck Operators, 8 Fire/EMS Personnel, 2 Road Service Technicians and 2 Safety-Service Patrol Operators struck and killed in secondary crashes in 2021, 63 total.
The Tow Truck I drive was struck 3 times in the past years. Twice I was out of it and once in was in it.
How many more need to be lost before this become serious enough?
My Prayers are that not one more Roadside Death will be reported this year. Since there are only a few days remaining can a get an reaction in reply....

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — One person has died following an eight-vehicle crash in Pasco County Monday night, Florida Highway Patrol said.
FHP said the eight-vehicle crash happened at State Rd 52 and Canyon Blvd.
The crash involved a concrete dump truck, tow truck and six other vehicles. FHP said four of the vehicles involved were burned severely.
One person has died, FHP said.

Hey Randall, selling the vehicles at Auction or Scraping them has not been the issue. In general between 300 and 400 cars a month are being sold. It's the fact many vehicles are not picked up, even insurance companies dump them. The Holds are due to the fact the cases are either still pending or the Officer with the Hold has changed units within the department. Things are slowly getting better and there is the possibility of a second lot next year. However with 2000 to 3000 abandoned vehicles on the streets I am sure it will fill up both lots quickly. That is with the division is fully staffed. Getting replies from any Mayors Office is like a roll or the dice.
-
Inaccuracies in the report. There are in fact currently 8 Tow Truck Operators and not 2 as stated. Perhaps they were referring to 2 that may be detailed to tow in abandoned vehicles. The first vehicle shown in the report are in fact Burn Outs on Hold for Arson. Since these vehicles rust much faster then regular wrecks they appear to have been sitting much longer. More than half of the vehicles currently in the Tow Lot are on some type of Hold. Many of them have been there more than a year.
Question for Private Tow Companies. How many vehicles are currently on Hold in your Storage Lot? Is there a time limit on those Hold Vehicles?
