Back in January I took off on a new adventure and left the towing industry. Well, went part time in the towing industry. An opportunity presented itself in the form of our state DOT safety patrol. It was a chance to combine my experience in the towing industry with my experience in the fire service and still be out where I love to be, playing in traffic. Plus it comes with a full pension and a siren lol. The best part about it is I'm done by noon which gives me the rest of the day to play towman.

I think this is finally done.... Got pin stripped, ceramic coated, our 2way radios installed and a back rack.

Are they ever really truly done though? There's always more goodies you find along the way to add on lol

  3. Years ago we had a car nail a pole, the pole snapped and it was laying across the road. We arrived and the police officer wanted us to lift the pole off the car and open the road. I said "sure, as soon as the electric co. tells me it's safe". The officer argued and argued with me about it, saying the house had no power so the pole must be dead. I pointed to the house next door, which still had power, and surmised that the break must be somewhere at the pole that was in 2 pieces with broken wires laying about underneath it. It got to the point where he threatened to kick me off the scene and call someone else, but before he got the chance the electric co showed up.

First thing he says was "good thing no one was trapped inside the car, all the wires draped over it were live. Power is disconnected, tell the tow guy he's safe to remove the car". Talk about a foot in mouth situation, but he never questioned me about anything after that day.

So I had a 26 footer stuck last night and I was taking to the dispatcher about the new policy of paying for winch outs. I've been to this house before for a winch out and both times it was a hundred plus foot pull. According to the dispatcher, U haul pays us up front and charges the customer for my costs once they get the bill. That makes sense since the last time I was here, on Christmas night in the pouring rain, the dispatcher told me they didn't care what the cost was to get it out.

Not sure if it's every area but in ours, UHaul has made a decision to cover all winch out services whether it has rode side assist or not. Then I guess they will back charge the customer where needed. We used to have issues with customer's not wanting to pay or pay appropriate rates for a 26'er. But they will destroy the truck, transmission or tires trying to get it out. So I guess they figure it's better for them to just cover it.

They've been doing it down here too and I love that decision. They genuinely don't care what it costs to get it out, they just want the equipment out without the damage that usually follows when a renter tries to get it out as cheap as possible. We did one Christmas day in the rain, a 26'er that was over 200' off the driveway. In the past they would've called for a quote, told the renter and they probably would've just spun and spun and spun until they broke something and needed me to tow it. This time u haul just covered it and even though they said they didn't care what my bill was, it still saved them from having me tow it 30 miles to their service center and finding another truck for their renter on Christmas.

Yea my son did a couple jobs with it but I wanted to see how it handled weight. If this was loaded, it probably would of been "Sketchy"...

We talked about doing a push bumper or a winch bumper & then weighting that? I'll see how it feels with the 400 lb counter weight.

I've seen a few with the Jerr Dan front bumper with a front winch mounted in it and they look pretty sweet. I'd be curious to see what kind of weight they add to the nose

I have their numbers all blocked so they can’t bother me at night when the phones are forwarded to my cell. Way too many wasted phone calls from them.

Funny, I have all their numbers blocked on my cell too. It amazes me that they still find providers to do calls for them, but then I look at some of the companies running around and remember that as long as there's a whore running around for pennies Agero will never go away.

  8. I guess I should stop saying their name, they're like Beetlejuice. They called last night for a 15 mile tow and kept asking for an ETA. I told them their ETA depends entirely on how fast they can find a credit card for me to run. As soon as I told them I wasn't taking their junk P.O. number she hung up on me. Oh well, maybe next time lol.

  9. I've been reading your adventures and misfortunes with Agero since the mid 2000's and for the life of me cannot figure out why it took you this long to reach the breaking point, if you are in fact there. They started dicking us around soon after the switch from CCMC to Agero and we pretty much immediately stopped taking their PO's. We still did their calls, but with a credit card up front and a firm understanding they we don't refund for GOA's. They rarely call us now but when they do they pay dearly for the pleasure. For your own mental health put them on cc up front and stop being at their mercy.
