Any issues billing for the traffic control ?
15 hours ago, Stuart Wagner said:How far will you tow a combo unit? We normally split them. So many of the dealers around us have a parking lot size of the average Mcdonalds that you would never get the whole combo in the lot. I know we can't talk price but is the traffic control 25 percent of what the tow is or 50 percent?
So as for billing, no we haven't had any problem. Now like in this case, I don't give them an option....it either comes out or I'm not your guy. This job was a "G" note total to get it back to the shop, all inclusive. Sometimes I get 150-200 for the support...not trying to make a killing on it, I just want to get home. The van makes it's "bread" on accident scenes, this is just an added safety procedure that works.
As for "Combination Towing", it's not legal in PA unless "Ordered by an agent of the Commonwealth" so if the cop tells you to "get that off my highway", you roll on. Wasn't the case here but I didn't have someone else to bring the tractor out Saturday night. I took the "risk" doing it in my pond where I'm a pretty big fish. I'm hesitant in other peoples "pond" if you get my drift. The single truck job doesn't lower the price because Risk needs to meet Reward. Jobs like this I do by what it's worth regardless of what truck I use. Personally I have been "lucky" I guess...one day that luck will run out... 🤕
I have towed combos some pretty good distances but typically I didn't have good viable choices. Brought a loaded unit back from Westchester County NY because the replacement truck didn't show up. That was 135 miles, 120,000 lbs and 120' long...but at 2am I came back like a hole in the night... We have customers like you are saying with small facilities so I won't do it unless I know exactly where I'm going.

We were just talking about these generation Vett's are starting to come in to some value. They aren't like 69' 427's but the prices used to plummet from 74-83 models.
Nice work. You better get after that door & cab corner. They command big bucks for doors out here due to rust issues.

Had my 1st loaded unit last night with the new truck. Volvo with a coolant loss, coming up the big mountain grossed out...
We send the traffic control on most Interstate calls to move people over...
It works...
Pulled shaft, aired tractor & service line to the trailer since we were 125,000. She did a good job starting off on the mountain. I topped the hill around 40 mph while my old Shaker would of been 25-30. It's a 5% 5 mile grade.
Our shop will repair it on Monday.

Falzone Towing in Wilkes-barre Pa has a Pete with a 28' equipment hauler bed for sale. I think it's an 05 or so...15 ton Jerr-Dan rollback. I believe it needs some work but is priced accordingly.

Good work. It's important to serve the community that serves you.

Wow that's a cool job.

Picked up a customer's Bell Helicopter and brought it to the shop for some welding repairs on the bird & maintenance on the trailer...
We usually move it with the car wrecker but wanted to see how it handled with the dump truck since it's substantially shorter...
Serviced the bearings and new tires to prevent any problems while we move this around this season...
Delivering it back to the airport...

Nice work. You get to use that "Sling Shot" technique quite a bit! It's a good solution for problems like this.

You can...or a ratchet & socket, but it's designed to be quick with an impact gun.

Good looking truck Ed. Do you still have the Pete with the 750?
Thank you. And yes I still have the Pete. I need to move it to someone who wants to restore it or something...it's just taking up garage space.

Nice. Is that "V" bridal for your tie down?

lookin good. Did you trade the old one or are you selling it yourself? Did you get to weigh the steer axle on the wrecker without anything on the underlift?
We showed my Freightliner as a trade but sold it outright. This was @ 14,700 on the steer when I got it. I haven't reweighed it yet but I think I'll be around 16,000 fully equipped.

I forget what brand they were, I'll have to check.
Did a few other storage upgrades yesterday. I like to take the time to figure out solutions to some of my needs...Some don't pan out but in the end I think they are beneficial to the operation of the truck.
I needed a space for a MatJack to stow so I made a hook/latch that swivels to hold the bag against the rear of the box...
I have all different rated loop straps so I found a company that makes custom colored milk crates so now it's obvious where they go...
I think this is going to work out so I ordered more. I cut a "Key slot" in the wheel grid brackets to stow my sledge hammer.
I have 3 more cabinets to finalize and then it's done. We have some custom drawers to install and a charging system for the Milwaukee tools.

Doubled Up...

Not often...but nice when it does. The truck is down rated to a 26k gvw. The bed is a 6 ton carrier.
Not sure on the weight of the manlift? If I was to guess I don't believe more then 3-4k? This didn't appear to be heavy for Rob, it might of been over? Not excessively though.
