  1. I would nominate Bob Fouquette from Big Wheel / RBU in Massachusetts. Besides the fact that he has helped thousands of towing companies across the country, he also possesses quality character traits like Integrity, compassion & the genuine concern and desire to help people. His wealth of knowledge of our industry is second to none and he runs his life & business with strong moral principles. I am proud to call him my friend and look to his "model" when I judge my own decisions.
  2. One thing I will say...the feet really plant this truck. Eddie winched this TT out and found that the trailer brakes were stuck on but it didn't stop it.
  3. I'll have to get better pics because these aren't the same scale but the offset is 10 or 12 inches further back on the new truck...
  4. We pull shafts unless like the gas truck was 4wd so the case can be put in neutral....obviously the rear tow was in 2wd. The wheel grids haven't been an issue yet....the wheel lift may be though. This is our 1st Chevron so I'm not sure what to expect. For instance, that service truck from the rear was an issue that it wouldn't tilt until it was sucked all the way in? My previous unit would out work the truck in every aspect. We are going to do some checking...
  5. Transit bus with a transmission problem... F550 Gas Truck with a big boom was heavy, especially in the snow. Pulled it with a strap to get it to the road due to steep slick hills... Towed to the shop for a freeze up (-9 deg this morning) Ambulance was pretty heavy too...Towed to the shop due to exhaust problem. Engine problem on a service truck...
  6. This insurance company was a pleasure to work with. From the original recovery job that they paid quickly without any issues, to the salvage transport which Copart had an issue with....they paid the job before we started it and the supplement as soon as we presented it.
  7. This recovery turned in to quite a nice job for us....a real adventure! The equipment sat at our place for a while till they determined what they were going to do. The truck was picked up by Copart & taken 35 mi away to their salvage pool. The trailer sat for 5 or 6 weeks in our storage until they totaled it. It was 2 weeks old & $73,000! We don't allow companies to work on our property & this wasn't just a hook and go so...Copart unhappily had to pay our rates to deliver it to their facility... As said, we were paid for the recovery & truck storage when it was picked up but the insurance company had it re appraised. They came to the mid $30's and couldn't total it since it was a $63,000 truck! So they contacted us & requested if we would be interested in repairing it. We just started our body shop a few weeks before this and my original intention was for doing commercial work...not insurance so much. But after seeing the estimate we decided to jump in! The truck was written for a complete frame swap and everything OEM so I figured lets do it... About 30 min in while we cleaned out the bed and found our 1st supplement...the bed floor was buckled due to the hitch... So that added another $5 grand to the already high estimate. We put the truck in our mechanic shop while the body shop worked on painting components. Lifted the cab/front clip off the chassis and then removed the engine/transmission/transfer case as 1 piece with a wrecker... Palletized the drivetrain & set out of the way. This made the swap work much easier... Picking up the frame @ the dealer... The customer requested if we could paint his chassis because GM puts a wax based tar paint on them that comes off easy & rusts even easier... So we stripped the whole frame and primed/refinished it... My guys had it swapped in record time and then back to the body shop to get it's new suite... Hood had a little damage from the incident but they also got caught in a hail storm in Nebraska on their trip which hammered the heck out of it... In the end it came out like new or better... Just thought guys might like to see the rest of the story.... It was a big task but in the end a profitable job from start to finish!
  8. I recall it being pretty snug in there against the drum...the rim slings were 3/4" out of my heavy & a bit big for light duty applications. I have since gotten a few smaller ones for the smaller trucks.
  9. Yea we have been averaging about $2500-3000 a month with it on clean ups.
  10. My shop truck was looking a little tattered from a rough winter so we figured we would run it through our body shop for a new "suite" and then put our new logo on it... She came out pretty nice for a 300,000mi truck! Then off to the wrap shop.... I was happy with the results. My team did a good job on her & she's ready for another 10 years of service.
  11. Wasn't sure where to put this...it's a Pick Up...Pulling a 40' 5th Wheel Trl...and they called for a Heavy Wrecker so...It is what it is. Anyway, these folks were making their way around a detour when the driver had a "Coronary event" & passed out. The truck veered off the road, narrowly missed a pole head on, and ran in to a swampy are in the woods... The Police were having animal control coming for their pet hound dog since the wife was riding with her husband to the hospital. We told them we would take care of her & had my Daughter in Law come pick her up to go back to the shop. She was pretty nervous... Winched some boulders out of the way to ease the removal & post damage... Lots of brush to clear & clean up so our van goes on every accident... So there were more boulders under the trailer that were too big to move. If pulled straight, it would surely damage the axles more. So we decided to go ahead about 4' to clear the pole and then we would pull the trailer sideways & "crab walk" the unit up the bank. Used 2 rim slings through the wheel to spread the force to both axles. I figured the trailer at around #12,000.... She was a pretty good grunt for the 650 but she came through as always... Once up on the black top, the guys started to clean up the mess while we got the trailer jacked down to unhook. Once secured, I pulled the truck out "junk yard" style just to get it out of the way. Then we could hook our truck to the trailer & load the pick up on a carrier... We chained the axle up because we couldn't find a spare and the axle /frame was pretty screwed up... All went pretty well. Fortunately the guy was ok. They were able to pick the dog up the next day and family came today to take them home. Truck was an 18' & the trailer a 19' so it will be a big dollar claim!
  12. Finally got the van wrapped. Just so much going on with a big expansion in our shop and busy as hell. It came out pretty good.... Got most of the interior done. The sign board should be on this week...waiting for custom air tanks that should be in this week... We have been using it & it's earning nicely...
  13. It has a block inside it that you can't get anything in to the tank
  14. Got a call Saturday night from the Arizona center for one of these with "a hole in the gas tank"... Explained the situation and that there wasn't much we could do then. Not sure on what they decided but the situation obviously continues....
  15. Finished the last one...ready if this guy starts round 2!
  16. The 1 we got on Friday we had to go 50 miles for....but it was vandalized up here. The agent rented it with a piece of duct tape over the hole.... That wasn't too smart. But it was the 1st that the hole is up in the front of the tank? When I found out where it happened...it made sense. Their lot is on a hill and they back them in up it.
  17. Well we have had a recent financial "boost" from UHaul lately. We already do a lot of work, both road service & shop work for them now but someone has been going around to area rental centers and drilling a hole in the top of the fuel tanks. They only hit the F650's I believe because they have a large tank? This front one only had 425 miles on it! The tanks are $3000 which flipped them out....so we have been removing the tanks, fumigating them out and seal welding a plug in the hole. So far we have done 8 trucks total. The 1st we installed a used tank that they had from a wrecked unit. I told them it would be easier if we just fixed them since finding that many tanks may take some time. It amazes me that in 5 different locations, they haven't been able to catch anyone on CCTV or anything?
  18. Radio installed... Stock up on absorbent supplies... New Stihl gas chain saw, electric chain saw & K2 cut saw... Drawer assortments filled with hardware, fittings & misc. small parts. We added a collapsible latter & made a rack system for the hand tools... We have a power inverter to install & the chargers for the Milwaukee tools that are going in the locked cabinet in an organizer. We are making a seperate battery box & circuit protection system for the rear of the van to keep all of the lighting & power center separate from the chassis. I'll update when we get a little more done...
  19. Yea I want to put more pics in to show the set up. It's getting a Start-All/Compressor system and a flip up LED message board for traffic control on the roof. It should be pretty nice when done....
  20. It can get pretty involved...and most vehicles are different.
  21. Trying to load more pics but the program won't let me....Great hosting of photo's...
  22. We had to replace our service truck so we decided to start with a "clean slate". I wanted something to use for our road service, our accident clean up response as well as traffic control to deal with people that don't move over. We thought about a couple of directions and decided on this route... 2018 Ford Transit 250 Van. 1st order is to tint it down a little...lot of glass... Then we sent it out to have a Interior Shelf unit & divider panel installed... Went with a composite divider to keep noise & fumes out. Not sure why the picture size has been limited that I can only get these loaded so I'll continue on another post....
