  1. Agreed! Receipt for payment is issued to whomever paid for the service. End of story. I have had several people, over the years come back, for a copy of their receipt on customer pay tows that were done weeks prior and ask me to change the date to today's date instead of showing the date the service was performed. I refuse to do this as well, because they are probably trying to scam an insurance company or motor club that they did not have a policy with on the date of service.

@FenderBender If you want to shoot me a message with some info, I'd be happy to look into any old invoices and see what happened with it. Speed and accuracy of payment is something we strive to be the best at.

We did get paid on the one I was speaking of. I have just found that the App process is not workable for us in rural Montana. I have had good results with credit card payment at the time we accept the call.

  3. We hear from them occasionally. Don't mind running their calls at commercial rate, like we do for any of the motor clubs. We tried the first call from them under the system where we call when the job is completed, then they pay with credit card. They tried to short pay that one, so now we require credit card payment up front and they do that.

  4. I have seen this scam twice in my area. The worst part is it is the motor clubs falling for it. When they start price shopping and pay an internet scammer/ tow company that doesn't even exist. They pay the scammer with a credit card and leave their customer stranded for hours, waiting for help that will never arrive. When the Montana Highway patrol tries to track down the scammer, the website just disappears.

  5. I have been using ITD for years with no problem. When I first looked at them, I found them far superior to the Collins I had been around. Having said that, since ITD came out, Collins has really upped their game and updated their design.

Today, we have several choices, and many good features with both brands. It seems to me that the competition has been good for our industry.

  6. I kicked agero to the curb about 10 years ago, and have no motor club contracts any more. They convinced me at one time that they would give me more work if I signed a contract. Now, keep in mind that they had been calling me anyway and paying commercial rate, no contract, no insurance on file with them, no nothing. I discovered, after I had signed a contract at a discounted rate, that the contract meant nothing to them. They would call and ask for a price and ETA on a tow. I would respond that the price would be my contracted base rate & mileage. They would insist on a number and then go down their list, price shopping. Since I cancelled the contract, they still call regularly asking for price quotes, which I give if the call is in my area, but I refuse anything out of area. They never accept until at least a half hour of looking for a cheaper deal. When they do accept and send the credit card info, it is usually at least an hour after the first call, but they always ask for an eta, what's the point of that. I feel like asking, "what's your ETA on actually dispatching this call?". They have called me twice, today on the same tow. Each time, I have accepted the call and gave a 30 minute ETA. The calls were 35 minutes apart, with the last one coming 2.5 hrs ago. I'm still waiting for the call dispatch and credit card info. If I ran my business like they do, I can't imagine being around very long.

  7. A few nights ago, I received a rotation call from the highway patrol. The dispatcher gave a milepost location on I90 and stated that one wheel was missing and one tire was flat. When I asked for a make & model, she replied, "it's a Pontiac Grand something". She said the trooper had already left but there was a county deputy on scene. When I arrived 30 minutes later, I found the vehicle, Unattended, in the ditch, 30 feet off the roadway, with the engine running, sitting in a pool of gasoline from the ruptured fuel tank. What were they thinking!

  8. That video is a real eye opener! I have been using wheel straps for years because I find it is the quickest way to accomplish a 4 point securement and I don't like crawling around under a vehicle looking for attachment points.

Looking at this reminds me of the insanity I see with Uhaul car trailers using basket straps on the front tires and a single chain at the rear that is obviously not strong enough to hold a large dog, with no way to tighten it.

I wonder what they were called before Fentron.  We have a wrecker called a Twin Boom and the boom heads look identical.  Ours is a 25ton unit.  Dad told me they were made out west.  The one we have is all mechanical I wonder if Fentron bought TwinBoom then built the hydraulic version.

    It's for sale.
