Below is the list of towers who have taken the pledge to Tow First. We need to stop changing tires on interstates and turnpikes. We need motor clubs to start dispatching these calls as "Tows". The TOW FIRST campaign is solicited your “pledge” to tow light-duty vehicles to a safe location before changing a flat tire on the side of an interstate, turnpike, or other high-speed highways.

 

Ultimately, the final choice to TOW FIRST is yours or your company’s boss. We hope you will support this campaign and take the pledge, and encourage everyone you know to do the same.

Why support TOW FIRST…It is estimated there are between 40 and 60 tow truck operators killed each year while performing road services and most occur on the side of the highway. How many more towers are injured but go unreported is unknown. In nearly every case, high-speed traffic is the primary factor for a tower dying.

Even when the tower takes every step necessary to protect the breakdown location, they have no control of the approaching vehicles. The other drivers may be on their phone, texting, drunk, or doing anything other than paying attention to the road ahead.

What do we want to accomplish with the TOW FIRST campaign?

1. Get towers to stop changing flat tires on the side of interstates and other high-speed highways.

2. Raise every tower’s level of awareness of the dangers of working next to a high-speed highway.

3. Have all towing company owners adopt the policy of towing vehicles to a safe location before changing a flat tire.

We need your participation in the TOW FIRST campaign...and your families’. We need you to help spread the word on Facebook, Twitter and any other media available. We can save lives by stopping this single, most time consuming roadside service.

We understand towing that a vehicle instead of changing a tire may not be possible for every tower; the circumstances of a situation may require changing a tire; or your company’s policy may be less flexible regarding the services you are required to perform. That doesn’t matter! If you agree that your life is endangered by changing tires next to high speed traffic and you want to help, we want and need your pledge.
 

Dave Past and his Tow First as well as Training Website was Deleted. These were the only Pledge Names I could salvage. Are you on the list and is there enough interest in resuming this type of campaign to look into bringing it back to the front. Dave Lambert started something good and many believe it would have made a difference. Sadly Dave Lambert was not able to see it through and to our knowledge it simply stalled upon his death. If anyone has any knowledge of this being picked up by someone else please advise.

Kudo's Ron for your mention of reviving Tow First. If anyone cares to Google, "Tow First", its presence is all but gone in the passing of Dave Lambert in 2017, yet a single video remains. Video following:  

 

And, "Yes", since Tow First was initiated, my name has been on the list as are industry leaders like, Ron Parrish, Michael McGovern, Tommy Anderson, Justin Cruse, John Borowski, Bill Gratzianna @ O'Hare, Quinn Piening, and Brendan Dooley, to name a few.

 

Why aren't the names of America's largest tow company owners on the list and What's your lack of motivation?

 

I'd like to think that Tow First "IS NOT" forgotten by those many (listed) companies that practice what Tow First preaches. Tow First should be on every tow truck association's website and home page.

 

I personally have recorded the death of as many as 33-tow operators killed working tire related calls, not to mention that one-third of them were killed in California alone. So, for example, one of the largest Towing Associations in America is California's, CTTA. If you go to the California Tow Truck Association's web page, you won't find mention or support of Tow First.

 

The same is true for Texas, Ohio and Florida (Dave's home state).   

 

May I suggest that this information go out on everyone's Facebook page asking all Facebook friends to SHARE it with their Facebook friends. This is a life-saving cause that makes perfect sense and while it's every tow business owner to conduct service in the manner they choose. This is one program that you can have a choice in helping to protect the lives of your towers and service technicians by choosing to NOT provide tire service on the highway.

 

You all know how I feel about it and I would be doing every tower a dis-service to NOT try and convince them of the sensibility that Tow First brings. Tow First is PROACTIVE. It DOESN'T Cost, it DOES bring Auto Clubs and Motor Clubs to the table to help lessen the unnecessary and repeated carnage that we've grown to know.

Even when the tower takes every step necessary to protect the breakdown location, they have no control of the approaching vehicles. The other drivers may be on their phone, texting, drunk, or doing anything other than paying attention to the road ahead.

What do we want to accomplish with the TOW FIRST campaign?

1. Get towers to stop changing flat tires on the side of interstates and other high-speed highways.

2. Raise every tower’s level of awareness of the dangers of working next to a high-speed highway.

3. Have all towing company owners adopt the policy of towing vehicles to a safe location before changing a flat tire.

We need your participation in the TOW FIRST campaign...and your families’. We need you to help spread the word on Facebook, Twitter and any other media available. We can save lives by stopping this single, most time consuming roadside service.

We understand towing that a vehicle instead of changing a tire may not be possible for every tower; the circumstances of a situation may require changing a tire; or your company’s policy may be less flexible regarding the services you are required to perform. That doesn’t matter! If you agree that your life is endangered by changing tires next to high speed traffic and you want to help, we want and need your pledge.
 

Dave Past and his Tow First as well as Training Website was Deleted. These were the only Pledge Names I could salvage. Are you on the list and is there enough interest in resuming this type of campaign to look into bringing it back to the front. Dave Lambert started something good and many believe it would have made a difference. Sadly Dave Lambert was not able to see it through and to our knowledge it simply stalled upon his death. If anyone has any knowledge of this being picked up by someone else please advise.
