Oklahoma man killed in Pottawatomie County crash

 

POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) – One person is in custody following a deadly hit-and-run in Pottawatomie County.

 

Around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, emergency crews were called to a crash along westbound I-40, near Shawnee.

 

When investigators arrived at the scene, they realized a man working on a tow truck had been hit by a semi-truck.

 

Officials say Kyle McCullough was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

 

Although the driver of the semi-truck initially tried to leave the scene, he didn’t get far before being stopped by law enforcement.

 

At this point, the cause of the crash is under investigation.

United States Emergency Responder Struck-By Death #4 of 2023 is Oklahoma Tow Truck Operator Kyle Morgan McCullough, 27 of Shawnee, Oklahoma an Operator for Sooner Wrecker Service who was struck & killed at 10pm on 03/28/2023 by a suspected intoxicated commercial vehicle driver.

Oklahoma Wrecker Owners Association Reported:

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of our first Oklahoma wrecker operator death for 2023. On the evening of March 28th, 2023 at approximately 9:30pm wrecker operator Kyle Morgan McCullough , 27 of Shawnee, Oklahoma was struck and killed along Interstate 40 near the 190 Mile Marker by a commercial motor vehicle. Kyle was a operator for Sooner Wrecker Service in McLoud, OK and had been with the company for about 2 years. According to the information received from OHP, the operator was on a owner requested tow and had loaded the disabled vehicle on his rollback. He was on the drivers side of his truck either securing something or walking back to the cab when he was struck by a passing semi tractor-trailer. Witnesses say the CMV driver did stop about a quarter mile down the road but then got back in their vehicle and drove away. He was stopped by a Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Deputy a short distance later and was arrested for "Leaving the scene of an accident". Other charges may be pending but because of the ongoing investigation by OHP no further details were given.

 

Kyle leaves behind two daughters both under the age of 6, his mother, and a girlfriend who was at the scene and witnessed the incident

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.

LIGHT UP FOR KYLE: THIS FRIDAY

 

All towers are invited to light up their trucks for Kyle. Below are directions, if you can't make it, light up your truck and post it below.

 

From I40 and US177 south bound, go south 1.5 miles to coker street, turn right onto coker street, coker street as across from P&K equipment, go south on coker for half mile, till Macarthur Street, turn left, east on Macarthur Street till you get to US177, we will be staging on macarthur in Front of Mr tow it all's yard, plenty of room, going to try to have all the heavys towards the front of the pack to lead and set the pace,

 

Would love to see everyone able to send a truck and light up the sky in honor of Kyle,

 

If any one needs any better information please reach out to me, would like to start gathering up around 6pm.

 

Leave out 645-7 Route from yard in shawnee to mcloud will include cruising in front of Sooner wrecker yard.

Notice from Oklahoma Wrecker Owners Association:

As many of you know Kyle was struck and killed on the side of the highway. We just finished a light up for him this last Friday. The family is requesting a final ride for Kyle. They will be holding a Celebration of life ceremony for him and has requested a Wrecker Precession to take him to his final resting place. We will also be doing his final 10-7 that day. I know many of you took time out your day to show up for the light up. The family was very moved by everyone who showed up. If you have the time and availability to send a a truck or two to send Kyle off the only way the Towing Industry knows how please let us know. The details are listed below.

 

Celebration of Life Ceremony for Kyle McCullough

Time and date: April 15th at 2pm CST
Location: Sharon Baptist Church 19002 S Gordon Cooper Dr, Shawnee, OK 74801 

 

We will be taking Kyle to his Final resting place which will be his mother's home.  The route we are planning is in the comments. Please let us know if you can show up and give Kyle one last ride. Local Law Enforcement has already said they will be present to help with traffic and also to escort Kyle to his final resting place.  We are asking everyone to show up by 1pm on April 15th at the church so we have time to line everyone up get flags secured to trucks if you have flags. Everyone is invited into the church for Kyle's Celebration of life Ceremony. 

Let's give Kyle his final farewell and final ride and bid him a final farewell for his sacrifice.  Thank you. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at 405-421-2076
