Stubborn66
Hi All, I just picked up an International 4700 LP with a Jerr Dan hpl60 body on it. According to Jerr Dan the wheel lift has a 6000# lift capacity with forks. It came with a set of spring forks, risers, and some other attachments but no axle forks. Based on the size of this truck and what I will be able to tow with it, what forks should I invest in? Thanks Tracy
EdsTowing
It's a great unit and very stout. We have towed a lot with ours...actually more then we should of. It's wheel lift rating is @ extension as well.... on the right chassis it will do a lot. I swung a 53' Werner trailer w/ 23k in the box off of a bridge railing once...At extension! LoL Protect your lines and it's a beast. Post some pics...
Stubborn66
Thanks Ed, Should be getting it back form the paint shop next week. I will post a pic then. This should work good for what I need and I love those old mechanical internationals, not super powerful but run forever. I am ordering a set of 4" short forks and a set of Frame forks to start. EdsTowing
The 2 sets of forks & I would get a set of spring slippers....it will do a lot on them since the wheel lift is retracted. I wouldn't bother with chain forks, it will always do it's best on the sling at that point.
Stubborn66
Thanks Ed. The spring attachment came with it. Hopefully another week or so it will be done.

EdsTowing
That came out nice! You need to make a bracket for the sling to rest on, Jerr-Dan should have done it from new. The sling bolts will tear up the aluminum from bouncing on it. Does it have the right side tool box on the bed?
Stubborn66
I am going to make brackets for the sling and also mount for the scoops on the outside, need figure out where to fit them with the dollies. No right side tool box, there is never enough storage. I am thinking of getting a diamond plate box to mount up in the center.

Stubborn66
I got the fender flares on yesterday. If I didn't have to work I could get this wrapped up. I love tinkering with these old trucks.
Moose
That truck is looking good and the bed appears low enough to mount the dollies on the bed. Doing that would give is an even better look. You might look into either used mounts if anyone has them or investing in the new swing out dolly mounts. We really like ours as they have gotten the dollies out of the bunks which caused all kinds of issues. If I had a driver that could not handle the dollies, I would likely use enclosed dolly bunks instead of the open ones. Does anyone know how much water gets in them and do they freeze up. That was a major issue in the winter. As for the L Arms you can FAB your own mounts and I would add a method to lock them down. A mount for the tow bar should be even easier to make up. Stubborn66
Thanks, I have Collins dollies with open mounts on the other truck, going to switch them over when I get everything else done. I need to get them on to figure out what to do with the scoops. On the plus side, I had to buy a whole sheet of aluminum diamond plate to make the flares so I Have enough left to make the rest of the deck items I want. Stubborn66
Getting closer, goes for lettering next week, mount the dollies, and switch over the rest of the gear. Still haven't decided on the extra upper tool box. Will likely want it when I get it loaded. Had to have a boom cylinder rebuilt $750.00. Could have used it this morning, but the F450 go it done. F250 over a bank in a culvert. Guy told the cop he pulled over to take a crap and did not see the culvert or how steep the bank was. You just cant make this stuff up!! Stubborn66
Finally ready to go to work, just waiting on two sets of Forks. Actually "practiced" a little today. Been a long time since I used a truck bar to lift anything.
