  3. Update on the Authorisation process...

numerous UK  towing companies have registered an interest in applying for the necessary permit to use red lights ...only to be told the DOT hasn't even worked out the authorisation procedure yet  !!!

No date is available for the applications to commence....

once again ... a fine example of the incredible efficiency  of the UK  government departments ...

  4. Ed... thank you for your comments ...

Its like everything when dealing  with Govt departments   the devil is in the detail...

Its all about protecting their asses  before considering the operator working at the side of the road in all weathers  day or night !!

Permits will only be issued to Bona-fide companies...

they are insisting on the installation of a device that will automatically switches the red lights off once the vehicle exceeds 5 mph ... so there will be a cost to that..

Plus all operatives must receive suitable training...

  5. After more than 30 years of campaigning......the UK government have finally accepted that towers working at side of the road need the added protection of flashing rear red lights

Up until now..... all the emergency services are permitted to operate flashing rear red lights whilst stationary at the scene of accidents,

Breakdowns or any road traffic incidents on the highways....but towers and breakdown services were not allowed that priveledge...

For years we have argued that towers need the same protection as every other emergency worker ....

The government have previosly argued that allowing towers  to use red  lights it will be open to abuse ...

To avoid that ..towers will be required to apply for a permit and be an approved operative before the flashing red lights  can legally used at the roadside ...

A huge thank you must go out to the industry teams that have tirelessly worked to make this happen...

  6. The Institute of Vehicle Recovery,   the  UK s Pemier rescue and recovery training body ....  proudly announced an affiliation with Haas Alert ...

to promote  the Safety Cloud  protection system  to the UK 's Towing industry....

An excellent presentation was made by  Gareth Evans  the newly appointed Haas Alert  European sales manager..at the business seminar at

The  Professional Recovery  magazine ...2023. Tow Show last week..

The system attracted a huge amount of interest from towing companies,  trade associations,  and work providers...

This is a another layer of protection available for all emergency responders, towers and roadside workers alike ...

Sincere thanks go out to Tom Parbs and his team  and the  IVR  team  to make this happen ...

  7. I  have used catch bags on numerous occasions.....on live jobs where is is difficult or impractical to restrain the casualty vehicle...or you dont have a restraining  vehicle available....

Especially if the centre of gravity is fairly high ....it gives you good control of the descent and removes the risk of excess shock on the touchdown or possible over balance on tall or very heavy vehicles.....we were  one of the first towing companies  in the UK  to add them to our air cushion unit ....after seeing them demonstrated  at the Kassel Tow Show  in Germany.....I was impressed  !!

They were not a high usage item   but a brilliant piece of equipment when you need it ...

We have used them  at the UK   Tow Show Recovery  Demonstrations  for several  years ....without the use of a restraining vehicle..

The cost is fairly high  ....but  I believe it is a good investment

  8. I was at that Tow Show .. Eamon Kelly asked me to do the commentary on the Recovery Demonstrations ..... unfortunately I got food poisoning on the journey over from England   and I spent the whole weekend being ill in my hotel room  and missed the lot !!...    that really  Sucked  !!

By all accounts ...it was a great event..

I cant recall the exact date  but it was  around 2004 / 5
