ALPINEPR1
looking to upgrade to a bigger chassis and remounting this jerrdan 1210d on it so i can fully use the capacity of this wrecker what would be a good chassis upgrade?i see lots of them mounted o ford f650? was just curious so i dont make a bad mistake of mounting it on something that wont tow well
BlackAutoload
More than a f#50, you need wheelbase. Longest truck wins for towing. Crew Cab or Extended cab, with a tunnel box 450/550 4500/5500 matches well with the hpl. I love my hpl / 1210d combo.
ALPINEPR1
I found a good deal on a ford f750 with a 5.9 Cummins and standard 6 speed with juice brakes lots of frame just have to trim it to fit. I have 2 24 inch tunnel boxes and the wrecker. Guessing this might be a good setup just thought it may be better to go a bit larger then a 5500/550? Platinum Sponsor ECTTS Posted October 12, 2018 Platinum Sponsor Share Posted October 12, 2018 When you are remounting the body to a Ford F-650 or any 26K GVW chassis, make sure that if you go air brakes that the rear suspension is spring not air , because the air bags sit in the frame which will prevent the wheel lift from being able to mount. If you choose hydraulic brakes you should be fine with the remount. On your question about the F750 and having to trim the Cab to axle down I love the 108" CA which is your 2 24" tunnel boxes and the HPL-60 / 1210D. Also here is some info from Jerr Dan on their "Best Kept Secrets" of standard duty wreckers. https://www.jerrdan.com/wp-content/uploads/SD-Wrecker-Sales-Manual-Rev-A..pdf If you have questions or need parts give us a call at 1-888-231-4316
ALPINEPR1
Thanks for the info i have never mounted a jerrdan before only a vulcan bed so this is a first on a bigger chassis. i have not bought the chassis yet it was one of the ones i have liked and thought it would be a good unit. it has hydraulc brakes and spring suspension. been looking at maybe a hino 268 with airbrakes and leaf spring suspension to still trying to make up my mind witch would be a good remount chassis to pick. EdsTowing
Well everyone will know what I will say....this truck is one of the baddest in the land & will outperform many that are even bigger. It's been in many different publications & magazines and the common denominator is that it always gets it done! This is one of the highest profit vehicles I have ever owned and never lets me down. Can't go wrong with this combination.
ALPINEPR1
damn i can see that. looks like it hauls everything pretty well to
ALPINEPR1
is that air brakes on that unit and a f650 or 750?
EdsTowing
It's a juice brake 650. A 750 would be better suited with a 16 ton unit. Air brakes would help this truck in general...when I replace it, I would change a few things.
TowZone
ED, I can see that you may add another unit. But, I find it hard to believe you will ever replace that unit. It's Part of the Family!
EdsTowing
That's true Ron...If I figured out what this truck has made over the last 12 years...it would amaze some. And it's only had cosmetic makeovers...all the original running gear. But I would jump in it and go to Cali tomorrow without thinking twice. Ain't it funny how some vehicles can instill that kind of confidence? Then there are some that I wouldn't go to Town in without a pocket full of cash & a cell phone...LoL
