Re: Instant E-Brake for Rollovers

There's been much discussion in tow forums about rollovers and preventing rollaways.

 

From the photo taken from an earlier post ... QUICK ... how would you put the E-Brake ON without climbing into the vehicle? It's right there.

 

This is a simple process that can be conducted using a 1-inch motorcycle strap and ratchet. Situate the ratchet so it's not rolled-over on and smashed. Show your newer drivers how to find the E-Brake cable, and then, how to get the proper, "Angle of the Dangle", to set the E-Brake. Although it only takes a minute extra to apply the E-Brake from the outside, use it in-conjunction to long 4x4's placed on the roadway.

 

Accordingly, make sure your tow truck or carrier has a readily reachable ratchet and strap that is grabbed at the moment you exit the truck and get to work.

 

Once the process of attachment and angle are learned, it's quick and efficient and easily removed.

I don't trust any parking brake in my area. Between people never using them and the salt rusting out the components, I have found very few that work properly and will hold the vehicle. My go to is to chock the tires, no mechanical parts to fail.

If you are on a hill & you need 100% guarantee that it will not roll away once uprighted in addition to 36" long 4x4's as wheel chocks is with most modern vehicles having spoked wheels is running a chain from a front wheel to a rear that will locking the wheels together.

Like Dperone, My region is a rust riddled area. Although, I have done the ratchet strap trick in the past, as well as the chain through the wheels trick. If I had to put a percentage on the actually functioning Park brakes around here I would have to say 35-40 % of them actually work. I have always found that funny considering it is VERY hilly here, and there is a ton of on-street parking in the city that has very steep grades. We have a few streets here that I would best compare to some you would find in San Francisco. The difference between the steep ones here and S.F. is the Snow and Ice of winter.. Always makes for some exciting work. LOL
