  1. From what i have learned, the clubs will say or do anything to keep the rates low.  I am sticking to my rates, they are calling when the cheap guys cant do it

Sounds like you are in an area where there is a lot of competition.

  2. Just as Fender Bender said, they call, you give them your rate and they email you the dispatch and a separate email with a link to go on and review the dispatch after 48 hours, add any extra charges that you may have, click submit.  check is generally here in three days.  They have accepted my rate on the first call and sent me the emails while I was still on the phone to make sure I got them both

  3. I could agree with  Mr. Resch and Grumps until you get to  1:49 in that video.  That does it for me, both invoices with the same invoice number and a 5K difference in price.  We talk about professionalism and we have companies out there doing things like this.  The part that is the most disturbing is that all towers are all seen in this negative light due to a few.  How do we police ourselves to stop these practices from those type of companies?

  4. Thanks Ed,

Should be getting it back form the paint shop next week.  I will post a pic then.  This should work good for what I need and I love those old mechanical internationals, not super powerful but run forever.  I am ordering a set of 4" short forks and a set of Frame forks to start.

  5. Hi All,

I just picked up an International 4700 LP with a Jerr Dan hpl60 body on it.  According to Jerr Dan the wheel lift has a 6000# lift capacity with forks.  It came with a set of spring forks, risers, and some other attachments but no axle forks.  Based on the size of this truck and what I will be able to tow with it, what forks should I invest in?

    Thanks

    Tracy

  6. From Collins:

The fifth-wheel attachment mounts on the wheel lift of both wrecker and carrier. It has a GVWR of 15,000 lbs. and VLR of 3,750 lbs. It attaches with one wrench and is indispensable when having to recover either fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailers. The wheel lift is still free to slide in and out while hooking up to the trailer. On a car carrier, the Fifth-Wheel Hitch makes it possible to recover both truck and trailer in a single-truck operation. This is cost-efficiency at its best.

This tells me that the "tongue weight" of this is 3750. That is what this piece can handle, my wheel lift is 6000# so I am good there.  The GVW of this unit is 15K so that is what this unit can handle, again the wrecker is rated higher so I am good on the truck end.

The In The Ditch unit is not rated as high, but the Collins unit will need tools to install.  The other thing I liked about the In The Ditch unit is that you used your safety chains and extended the boom until they were snug which adds stability to the unit.

Does your unit need to be bolted on or does it go on with pins?

I would tend to go with this unit based on the weight capacity.  There are a lot of gooseneck trailers running around here and they would  be over what the In The Ditch unit is rated for.

Does anyone here have any experience with a "5th wheel power hitch" made for a wheel lift?  It is made by In the Ditch and looks relatively easy on and off.  I am wondering about durability and stability when towing.

There is also one made by Collins that has a higher weight capacity but needs tools to install.

    Thanks

  8. Good Morning,

I apologize if this is off topic for this forum

I am small garage operation with a rollback and a wrecker.  I was recently looked into supplying a customer with a "certificate of insurance" listing them as an additional insured to become a primary call in my rural area.

When I asked my insurance agent for the certificate I was told that I would need to change my policy to a contract tower and that my insurance rates would at least double.  I asked my agent if I was covered to take these calls without having a contract and they said "yes", I was covered to take any calls from anyone, the contract was what made the difference.

Then I got a rate from another company for 12K per year, which is about triple what I pay now.  The other thing I noticed is that only one of the companies I shopped the insurance through asked about how many calls per month I did.

Has anyone else run into this?  Does it make sense that rates would be so much different over the certificate when my insurance would be first in line for a claim on my operation anyway?
