  1. A man charged with aggravated assault, OVI and drug possession after crashing into a tow truck in Cleveland, Ohio, pleaded not guilty in a court arraignment Wednesday.

Roy Hollingsworth, 35, is accused of being three times over the legal alcohol limit when his vehicle collided with the tow truck on March 18. He was reportedly driving 66 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The crash left tow operator Ronald Urbansky, 53, pinned under the tow truck. Urbansky survived but lost a leg below the knee. He was loading a vehicle impounded after a traffic stop when the crash occurred.

  3. What’s needed to raise the bar of professionalism in the towing and recovery industry?

    Raising-the-Bar.jpg

What will it take to raise the standards of quality or the motoring public’s expectations our industry?

My first thought would be education and communication. I had a lively discussion with a fellow tower about training and the three levels of TRAA certification. He told me he didn’t see the need or value of a certification certificate at all.

My comment back to him was, that piece of paper shows the motoring public that you are better than the guy down the road. It says something to your employees, customers, law enforcement and insurance companies. It shows that you care. You care about safety, training and certification to counter the bad perceptions of our industry. The perceptions that towing operators are rip-offs, dirty, uneducated and unprofessional.

Let’s continue to raise the bar of expectations for our industry. If we don’t start reaching for a higher goal of earning the respect we need and deserve by continuing with education and communication, we’ll just be the guy down the road.

  4. Detroit-Connect-Platform.png

Detroit™ Connect, Daimler Trucks North America’s suite of connected vehicle services has announced that third party telematics service providers can now be integrated into the Detroit Connect platform.

The proprietary Detroit Connect platform, exclusive to the Freightliner® new Cascadia®, was designed to allow the services of third party providers to be supported via the platform, providing customers the flexibility to work with the partner of their choice as well as eliminating the need to install additional hardware. The integrated services will also be factory installed to help reduce the time it takes customers to in-service their vehicles.

“Integrating the services of third party providers onto our Detroit Connect platform is a real game-changer,” said Jason Krajewski, director of connectivity for Daimler Trucks North America. “It provides us the ability to expand our capabilities and push the bounds of the connected vehicle experience.”

Detroit Connect has collaborated with Zonar to deepen the connectivity services offered on the Detroit Connect platform. Zonar will be the first telematics service provider integrated onto the Detroit Connect platform.

Starting in April, Zonar offerings will be available on the Detroit Connect Platform allowing customers to access Zonar’s patented telematics technologies, including Ground Traffic Control® (GTC), Zonar’s web-based fleet management solution without having to install additional hardware on the vehicle.

DTNA and Zonar’s partnership began in 2011, when the companies collaborated to bring Detroit® Connect Virtual TechnicianSM to market. In 2015, DTNA became a minority investor in Zonar to continue its industry leadership in telematics services.
