I believe that I stopped allowing customers to ride in my truck back on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2020, 15 months ago. I have experienced very little pushback from people. Most people would rather keep their distance, which is fine with me.
Things seem to be getting a little more back to normal now. Masks are no longer required in most public places, although still suggested. Most restaurants and nightclubs are filled to full capacity. What about us?
Have you resumed carrying passengers? I still haven't. I really wanted to stop letting people ride in my trucks years ago. It's not just the fear of getting Covid (I had the Corona Virus for 5 weeks last May). I have had more of my share of trying to boost a fat lady into the cab, despite the fact that she can't lift her legs high enough to reach the bottom step. Not to mention people that smell bad.
And the occasional drunk that puked on the floor. One of the last passengers I had before I stopped taking passengers urinated on the seat. I had to remove the passenger seat and send it out to be professionally cleaned.
And then there's liability issues. I have had passengers that missed the top step as they tried to get out, and ended up sprawled out on the ground. That happened to a drunk woman a few years back. (I was not the driver for that one). When she fell out, the bag that she was carrying spilled its contents, which included my driver's NEXTEL, the tow book, a 5 lb. fire extinguisher, and other things from the cab.
A couple of years ago, I towed a car with two women passengers. They asked if they could sit in the truck while I loaded up the car. I said yes (big mistake). When I finished, and when I got back into the cab, something didn't look right. I got out again, and I walked around to the passenger side. I noticed that the women removed two yellow safety coats, which were hanging on the backs of the middle and passenger seats, and the jump pack, which was on the passenger side floor, and ditched them in the bushes. I politely asked them to get out of the cab for a minute, and I retrieved the coats and jump pack, and put them back in the truck. Then I closed and locked the passenger door, and I told them to call a taxi. They complained to me that they were uncomfortable leaning on the coats, and having their legs elevated on top of the jump pack. I pointed out to them that they were only going to ride for a couple of miles. Passenger comfort is not really my concern. This is not Southwest Airlines. I offered to drop the car, so they could call someone else. But they wanted me to continue the tow. They called a friend for a ride. Later on, I got a call from the motor club. I got yelled at for kicking them out of the truck. And the dispatcher didn't care that the customers threw out my jackets and the jump pack. I would do it again.
So for now, I will continue to decline to give rides. But if I do go back to giving rides, there will be rules. No drunks. And I will only carry one person. I considered the idea of no longer carrying passengers as a victory for us. And I'm not ready to concede.

Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) and CBS Sports have announced the full 2021 schedule for the brand new six-race, short-track series that will begin on June 12th at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Races will air on six consecutive Saturday nights at 8 PM, ET on CBS Television Network and CBS All-Access throughout the Summer of 2021.
After the inaugural race at Stafford, SRX will head to Knoxville Raceway in Iowa on June 19 before visiting Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Ohio the following week. Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana will kick off the holiday weekend in early July, before the drivers race at the “World’s Fastest Quarter Mile Oval” at Slinger Speedway in Wisconsin. The final and championship race of the inaugural season will take place at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway on July 17.
The six-race series will feature drivers from a variety of racing backgrounds with an emphasis on head-to-head competition in short, sprint races. The 90-minute races will be produced within a two-hour television window. Races will have no pit stops but breaks where drivers and crew chiefs can make adjustments and strategy decisions. SRX has secured driver commitments from some of the sport’s biggest names, including, Stewart, Bill Elliott, Tony Kanaan, Paul Tracy, Bobby Labonte, Willy T. Ribbs, Mark Webber, Ernie Francis Jr. and Helio Castroneves, with more drivers to be announced.
“With a six-week back-to-back schedule that crosses America, visiting some of the most historic and challenging short tracks in auto racing, the SRX series will be a must-watch, and I am so excited to see these legends on the track,” said Ray Evernham, SRX co-founder.
“Starting our series at the historic Stafford Motor Speedway will center the eyes of the nation on one of America’s oldest and most historic short-tracks. Then we head west, with back-to-back races on dirt at the renowned Knoxville Raceway and Stewart’s Eldora Speedway. Fourth of July weekend will be special at the great Lucas Oil Raceway, with so much energy and excitement at that facility. Then we head up to Slinger Speedway in Wisconsin where so many of the great NASCAR drivers have competed at the Slinger Nationals. Finally, we wrap up the 2021 series with our championship at the Nashville Fairgrounds, a track that has witnessed so much history of the course of their 100+ year existence,” said Evernham.

I think that Quest bought them out. I have gotten Quest calls on a USAC saved phone number. I hope that they didn't pay much for it. I went through 2020 without one single call from USAC. Whereas I used to do a ton of calls for them, back in the day.

Every time I re-read this thread, it reminds me of a call from a couple of years ago. I got a call in Andover to tow a Ford GT. When I arrived at the customer's garage, the first thing that I noticed was that I couldn't slide my hand between the ground effects and the pavement. I tried different configurations of lumber. But no matter what I tried, the spoiler was going to scrape. The car owner told me to give it up. He said that he would tow the car himself on his own car trailer. Sounded good to me. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. That night, after I got home, I Googled the Ford GT, just to learn more about it. I had never even seen one in person before. The article I read on Google said that the car was worth over $300,000. A couple of weeks later, I was watching Jay Leno's Garage on CNBC. He had a Ford GT that was the same year as the one I went to. But it was red, rather than the blue one I went to. He said that the Ford GT that he was looking at was worth over $350,000. I had another call from Agero to tow a Lamborghini that was supposedly worth over $150,000. The dispatcher spoke of using special handling for this car, like softer straps, etc. So I asked her if there was special pricing for the tow bill. She said no. All I was going to get was the same fee that they would pay me to tow a Ford Focus. PASS. I have always had sufficient insurance coverage to tow the average car that I encounter every day. But I never had the level of on-hook coverage to cover a Ford GT. I am not interested in subjecting myself to that level of exposure. So I'll never tow an expensive car like that again. Don't be afraid to say no. I scrutinize every car I tow. If it doesn't look right. If I am afraid that I will get blamed for something, I PASS. One day I laid down on the end of the flatbed and started taking pictures of the lower spoiler, which was bent and torn. The customer asked me why I was doing that. I told him that I was documenting pre-existing damage. He went ballistic, and began screaming at me that I had no right to take pictures. I stood up, slid the body back to it's travel position, said my goodbyes, and I drove away. PASS.

Just to keep all the FOXs straight, when I make reference to the FOX Network, I am referring to the channel that they broadcast the Cup series on, which is the same channel that they broadcast "The Simpsons", "911", & "911 Lone Star", etc. on. The FOX Network is an over-the-air broadcast television channel. And then there are (FS1) and (FS2), acronyms for FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2, both of which are cable-only sports channels. Got it?
And to keep the various NBC channels straight, when I make reference to the NBC Network, I am referring to the channel that you watch the "Today Show", "The Voice", "Chicago PD", "Chicago Fire", "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon", and "Saturday Night Live" on. Most NBC Network affiliated channels are-over-the-air broadcast television stations. And when I make reference to NBCSN, that is the acronym for the NBC Sports Network, which is a cable sports channel. It is conceivable that a race could show up on other NBC sister cable channels along the way, usually CNBC, an NBC-owned cable channel, to accommodate some qualifying events and rainouts. Copy that?
This year, NBC will broadcast the rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics during the summer of 2021. So it is conceivable that some racing will be moved around and carried by other cable channels, such as CNBC, USA Network channel, etc.
It has been recently reported that NBCSN will cease operations at the end of the 2021 season. Supposedly, much of the current content of NBCSN will be broadcast on the NBC Network, the USA Network channel, and on the NBC Peacock Streaming channel. Stay tuned!
Beginning June 12, 2021, there's a new racing series in town.
Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) and CBS Sports have announced the full 2021 schedule for the brand new six-race, short-track series that will begin on June 12th at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Races will air on six consecutive Saturday nights at 8 PM, ET on the CBS Network and CBS All-Access / Paramount-Plus throughout the Summer of 2021. The 2021 6 race schedule is listed at the bottom of this page.

Evidently it railed earlier. So the track is wet. The Jet Dryers are working on drying it. And the start of the race is delayed. I hope that the race starts soon though, because the Talladega Superspeedway has no lights. And it starts getting dark after 6pm. It's 3:16pm, and they are covering the cars again because it is raining again. BLAH! Just before the green flag was to drop @ 3:49pm, it started pouring again!
It is almost 4:00pm. There is not enough time to get the race in before it starts getting dark. SO- THE RACE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL 1:00PM TOMORROW, MONDAY, ON NBCSN. The race ran as advertised on Monday. However, it was shortened by rain with 71 laps to go.

Meanwhile, congrats to AJ,On Wednesday, May 12, The National Motorsports Final Appeals Officer overturned penalties previously issued against JR Motorsports' #9 Chevrolet team after the May 9th race at Darlington. The disqualification was reversed, and Noah Gragson's fourth place finish, and the $100,000 Dash-4-Cash prize, was restored. Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) and CBS Sports have announced the full 2021 schedule for the brand new six-race, short-track series that will begin on June 12th at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Races will air on six consecutive Saturday nights at 8 PM, ET on CBS Television Network and CBS All-Access throughout the Summer of 2021.
After the inaugural race at Stafford, SRX will head to Knoxville Raceway in Iowa on June 19 before visiting Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Ohio the following week. Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana will kick off the holiday weekend in early July, before the drivers race at the “World’s Fastest Quarter Mile Oval” at Slinger Speedway in Wisconsin. The final and championship race of the inaugural season will take place at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway on July 17.
The six-race series will feature drivers from a variety of racing backgrounds with an emphasis on head-to-head competition in short, sprint races. The 90-minute races will be produced within a two-hour television window. Races will have no pit stops but breaks where drivers and crew chiefs can make adjustments and strategy decisions. SRX has secured driver commitments from some of the sport’s biggest names, including, Stewart, Bill Elliott, Tony Kanaan, Paul Tracy, Bobby Labonte, Willy T. Ribbs, Mark Webber, Ernie Francis Jr. and Helio Castroneves, with more drivers to be announced.
“With a six-week back-to-back schedule that crosses America, visiting some of the most historic and challenging short tracks in auto racing, the SRX series will be a must-watch, and I am so excited to see these legends on the track,” said Ray Evernham, SRX co-founder.
“Starting our series at the historic Stafford Motor Speedway will center the eyes of the nation on one of America’s oldest and most historic short-tracks. Then we head west, with back-to-back races on dirt at the renowned Knoxville Raceway and Stewart’s Eldora Speedway. Fourth of July weekend will be special at the great Lucas Oil Raceway, with so much energy and excitement at that facility. Then we head up to Slinger Speedway in Wisconsin where so many of the great NASCAR drivers have competed at the Slinger Nationals. Finally, we wrap up the 2021 series with our championship at the Nashville Fairgrounds, a track that has witnessed so much history of the course of their 100+ year existence,” said Evernham.
