I like the part that says that we agree to never take them to court. I probably wouldn't ever take them to court anyway. They have deeper pockets than I do. But can they get you to agree to that in advance??? Doesn't sound legal to me. But what do I know? I am just a dumb tow truck driver.

I had a guy from Agero call me the other day, asking me why I haven't signed up for their Agero/Swoop Dispatching Platform. I had no idea what he was talking about. So he said that he would email it to me. The form really doesn't tell me very much. Yesterday I got a call to tow a fairly new car to a dealership. I gave the dispatcher a 60 minute ETA. Right after I got the call, the customer called me, asking me where I was. I told her that I had given an ETA of 60 minutes. And I was on another call. She said that the screen on her phone is supposed to tell her my exact location. She said that the space that is supposed to say that was blank. I got to the car within 45 minutes. So after I unloaded the car at the dealership, I asked the woman more about what she told me. I can always count on the customers to tell the truth. She showed me the message on her phone. There is a little map, showing her location (at her house). But nothing about my location. So after I left, I realized that Swoop is yet another scam.
My neighbor is a glass installer for Safe-Lite Auto Glass. A few minutes before he arrives at a customer's location, Safe-Lite sends a text to the customer, advising him that the truck is almost there. The message shows a picture of his truck, and his photograph. (I keep telling him that they should put his picture on the side of the truck! You can only imagine what he tells me, LOL!) The difference between him and me is he is an employee of Safe-Lite, and all he does all day is replace their windshields. So they control what he does every minute of every day. Whereas, I am an independent contractor, and I handle road calls for other clients and motor clubs besides Agero. And no one is going to track my movements. Years ago, AAA had a contract that, if you signed it, you agreed to tow for them exclusively. And you had to paint your truck to match their color scheme. Not something that I would do. Agero would have to pay me a lot more money than they're paying me now for that kind of commitment from me. Not likely.
A few years ago, I was advised by an Agero employee, to stay away from their "apps". I was told that they control the content of the app at all times. So if you access the app, and the dispatch information is wrong, they can access it, and edit the information, preventing you from getting a GOA if they dispatched you to the wrong location. They will basically call you a liar. I like PAPER. I want the call emailed to me, so I can print it out on PAPER.
I haven't made any comments on that new contract that they put out there. There is nothing in that contract that benefits any of us. It totally benefits Agero. If you sign it, there is no promise that they will ever give you even one call. They spell it out in plain English that the only time that you will collect over-mileage from a customer is when the customer pays the over-mileage in cash. If the customer pays the over-mileage with a credit card, Agero collects it in full and keeps it all, at $4 a mile. They will not share it with you. THAT IS A PAY CUT.
I will not sign anything, and I will not agree to any changes, without a rate increase. I have begun the process of applying for Social Security. It has been my intention to continue working. (If I want spending money, I'll have to keep working. My wife will probably grab my S.S. check every month!).

So it's the end of week 1 of "no passengers" in the truck. I advised several people that they would have to secure their own ride, including one customer on the highway (He called an Uber). Every person was understanding. Not 1 fight!
At the end of week 2 of "no passengers" in the truck, again, no problem with anyone.

I am the custodian, and I am a trustee at my church. So tomorrow, I have the task of notifying the AA group that uses our parish hall every day that they can't use it for at least a month. And we rent out another hall to a Spanish church. They can't use that either. I am hoping that the AA group will assemble outside on the lawn. People that attend AA meetings need the support that they get from each other. But the law is the law. It is going to be a long month.
ADDENDUM#1** I decided to tell AA that it is their decision, as tenants, whether to continue to hold their daily meetings in our hall, which they rent from us. I don't want to be the bad guy. However, I suggested that they hold their meetings outside on the lawn. Then they can be spaced 6 feet apart for safety. I also told them that they would have to clean the restrooms and the kitchen sinks daily. The Corona-Virus lives on surfaces for at least 5 days. So it is imperative that they are diligent about cleaning.
As for me, as I said above, I have decided not to allow customers to ride along in the truck with me anymore. I told a couple of people that today. And they both said that they didn't blame me. (Of course, what makes me think that a customer would want to place himself at risk by sitting next to me?) It cuts both ways. I have always had latex gloves in my truck. I only used them at the scene of an accident where there was blood, vomit, etc. Now I use them on every call, every day.
ADDENDUM#2** Today was the last day for the AA group to meet in our church Parish Hall. It was their decision, and not mine. They were doing everything right. They cleaned everything after every meeting. And they had the chairs spaced six feet apart. But as the COVID19 situation worsens, I guess that they are afraid. So I told them that when the weather warms up a little, they can have their meetings on the lawn.

I have been kicking this around in my mind for the past few days. I had a guy in my truck a few days ago that was coughing, sneezing, hacking, etc. I opened his window. And he didn't like it. Here in Mass, the governor just banned any gatherings over 25 people. He ordered all restaurants to be closed, with the exception of take-out. (I'm glad that I went out for breakfast this morning. It might be the last time for a while. There was only a dozen people in the restaurant, which is very low for that place.) All schools are closed. All churches are closed too. I'll bet that a lot of people will not be working for a while. So there probably won't be any road calls anyway. So until further notice, I will not let anyone ride with me in the truck. I will call every customer and advise them of that before I tow their car. And I will give them the phone number for Uber.

I had a guy call me today that I towed a couple of days ago. Evidently, he paid for a portion of the tow directly to Agero with his credit card. He wants a receipt for that money, so he can submit it to his insurance company. He also said that the Agero dispatcher told him that I had to provide the receipt to him. I told him that he needs to get the receipt from whoever he paid. And that isn't me. I don't know how much he paid them, and I don't care. You want to steal my over-mileage money Agero? Finish the job and give the guy a receipt. Do your job.

Nope. I can't open it. Maybe you can send it as a regular attachment instead of a PDF attachment. I seem to have difficulty opening PDF files sometimes.

Hello there, Could I get somebody to make a copy of that new contract and email it to me as an attachment? No matter what I do, I can't open the link from my account page. My email address is thtdon@msn.com. If you could send me an email, with that page as an attachment, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I read that letter on Agero's dispatch page this morning for the first time. I will not respond to them at all. The last rate increase that I have gotten from them was in 1997. I have asked repeatedly for an increase, but with no success. They have cut the winching fee in half by cutting the time that they will pay for in half. So I stopped winching cars out of snowbanks and mud for them altogether. They get the customers to pay over-mileage to them directly at the $4.00/mile over-mileage rate that we charge, while expecting us to do the whole call at the lower basic mileage that they want to pay us. I could go on and on. But I won't. I refuse to pay one cent more for anything that they require to handle their calls, unless I get a raise. I am 66 years old. I have been contracted with them for 35-40 years. This year I am going to semi-retire and start collecting Social Security. But I am still going to work, at least part time. I guess when I start collecting Social Security, that will be my raise!!!

Welcome to the 2020 NASCAR Weekly Racing Schedule. All times posted are Eastern Time. As they say on TV, consult your local listings for the time and channel in your area. This information was obtained from NASCAR.com, FOXSPORTS.com, Motorsport.com, WeatherTechRacing.com, NBCSN.com, and Jayski.com
Just to keep the FOXs straight, when I make reference to the FOX Network, I am referring to the channel that they broadcast the Cup Series on, which is the same channel that they broadcast "The Simpsons", "911", and "Last Man Standing" on. The FOX Network is an over-the-air broadcast television channel. And then there are (FS1) and (FS2), acronyms for FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2, both of which are cable-only all-sports channels. Got it?
And to keep the various NBC channels straight, when I make reference to the NBC Network, I am referring to the channel that you watch the "Today Show", "The Tonight Show", "Chicago Fire and PD", and "Saturday Night Live" on. Most NBC Network affiliated channels are over-the-air broadcast television stations. And when I make reference to NBCSN, that is the acronym for the NBC Sports Network, which is a cable-only all-sports channel. It is conceivable that a race could show up on other NBC sister cable channels along the way, usually CNBC, an NBC-owned cable channel, to accommodate some qualifying events and rainouts. Copy that?

I KNEW BETTER...

I got a message from HONK a couple of weeks ago, inviting me to become a member of their service provider team. I'll stick to taking the calls one by one, thank you. And I will negotiate the price of every call. I remember a few years ago, I had done a few calls for NSD. I negotiated the price of each call. And it appeared that NSD was pleased with the service and the pricing. Then one day, I got a large envelope from NSD with a proposed contract and rate sheet. Their rate sheet was a joke. And there was no negotiating it. Take it or leave it. A representative from NSD called me about a week later, asking if I got the envelope, and if I liked what In saw. I laughed at him. And I told him that I put the envelope in the wastebasket where it belonged. Their rate sheet was an insult to my intelligence. He was insulted. He said that their rates were the highest in the industry. Good luck with that.
In this strange world that we are all living in and working in these days, and when you read and hear big companies with their slick television commercials telling the world how much they value their employees and customers, they are never referring to tow operators. I have never felt as disrespected as I do right now. They say that we are all in this together. That's crap. I got a call from a motor club recently. And I informed the customer that we no longer transport passengers. He didn't like that, so he complained. I got a call back from the dispatcher, complaining that I refused to allow the customer a ride. I explained to the dispatcher that carrying a passenger inside the cab of a truck was a violation of social distancing, as the customer is closer to me than 6 feet. She said that it doesn't matter. It's the job that I signed up for. And I will have to live with the risks. Says her.
