Why Snatch Blocks are AWESOME (How Pulleys Work) - Smarter Every Day 228

Recommended Posts

Industry instructor, Terry Abejuela, from California, has been teaching this at American Towman Tow Shows for years. He is fun and informative making the process of, "seeing is believing", a reality. It's one thing to see it in a video, but to be part of the live and up-front demonstration makes learning fun. This video is a great tool that explains how snatch-block's work and what mechanical advantages can be gained from their use.    R.

When I was in the military and went through H8 recovery school, we buried a HMMWV (humvee) to the body in sand, and then we were supplied with around 20 snatch blocks and rope.  It was up to us to figure out how to recover the vehicle with only those tools and our squad of 5.  That school taught me a lot in the way of recoveries.  And by the way, yes we recovered that HMMWV with just the rope and snatch blocks and 4 people pulling with 1 person steering.
