TowNews Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 Dear Friends, It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Mr. Ludwig (Lud) Menzl. As many of you may know, Mr. Menzl was one of the founders of the Wisconsin Towing Association, initial organizers of the W-TON Brewers Tailgate Fundraiser, recipient of the Frank W. Babbitt Award (now known as the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Hall of Fame), and 1991 inductee to the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame. In his early days, he worked as auto mechanic, salesman and handyman. In 1957 he purchased a Texaco Service Station in Milwaukee where he went into the towing business. From this modest beginning, he went on to build one of the largest and most modern towing and recovery companies in Wisconsin. Mr. Menzl was very active in legislative issues at the state level on behalf of the towing and recovery industry. Mr. Menzl served the Wisconsin Towing Association as its Chairman, Board Director, and Honorary Director. During his time, he actively sought to improve the towing and recovery industry at both the state and local levels in Wisconsin. Information regarding funeral arrangements and service will be shared when available. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers at this time. As found on the Associations FB Page When Possible more details will be posted.
TowZone Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 His daughter Dina Menzl - Russo wrote: Thursday December 27 my father Ludwig "Lud" Menzl passed away. It was a long hard fight for him after a stroke paralyzed łhis left side 14 years ago. He came to the United States from Germany by himself with one suitcase filled with some clothes, his automotive apprenticeship folders, and a set of English translation books. The things he set out to do and accomplished are beyond imaginable. Learned the English language proficiently, started his own company-Menzl's Towing. He received his private pilots license and loved flying his plane. He became involved in local, state and federal politics to better the transportation industry and had a passion for this country that gave him so much opportunity. He was active in many organizations and clubs. He also loved the game of golf. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He had a big personality and drew people in with his great sense of humor and stories. It was difficult to see him change the way he did from the stroke. Being with him the last two days of his life here on earth was certainly a blessing. It's hard to believe you are really gone! Rest In Peace- no more pain. We love you so much!!
