Tow truck driver hit, killed while helping motorist on I-95 in College Park, Maryland State Police say

One person is dead in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Prince George's County Thursday afternoon. Police say drivers in the area should expect major delays while the crash investigation is underway.

Prince George's County emergency crews were called to a crash with entrapment just after noon. The crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-95 at the Powder Mill Road exit (MD 212). Maryland State Police troopers say, according to an initial investigation, a tow truck driver was stopped to help a driver. Troopers say while assisting that driver, another driver sideswiped the stranded vehicle.

The tow truck driver was struck and killed, according to troopers. The striking vehicle remained on scene.

Maryland State Police have shut down the northbound lanes of I-95 at Powder Mill Road for the crash investigation. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. It is not clear how long lanes will be shut down.

It’s Maryland law to move over when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying warning signals – including hazard warning lights, road flares, or other caution signals including traffic cones, caution signs, or non-vehicular warning signs.

Violating the law is a misdemeanor carrying a $110 fine and one point on your license. If the violation causes a crash, the fine is $150 and three points. If there is a death or serious injury, the fine is $750 and three points

Okay, someone clarify this Struck & Killed.

Was this a Tow Truck Driver or a Truck Driver, in none of the images is there a Tow Truck visible. Only a Semi Tractor Trailer Truck.

31-year-old tow truck driver killed while trying to help stranded driver on I-95

Police identified the man killed as Osama Abdelfattah Marey of Suitland, Maryland

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — One person is dead in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Prince George's County Thursday afternoon.

Prince George's County emergency crews were called to a crash with entrapment just after noon. The crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-95 at the Powder Mill Road exit (MD 212). Maryland State Police troopers say, according to an initial investigation, a tow truck driver was stopped to help a driver. Troopers say while assisting that driver, another driver sideswiped the stranded vehicle.

The driver who hit the tow truck then struck a third car, a Honda Accord, which was then hit by a tractor-trailer.

The tow truck driver was struck and killed, according to troopers. He was later identified by police as 31-year-old Osama Abdelfattah Marey of Suitland, Maryland. A 76-year-old woman was inside the Honda Accord that was hit by the tractor-trailer. She was taken to Suburban Hospital for help.

The driver of the striking vehicle was identified as 24-year-old Hans Jurgen Gutierrez Samoya of Laurel, Maryland.

Maryland State Police shut down the northbound lanes of I-95 at Powder Mill Road for several hours Thursday. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The roadway was closed for about five hours and has since reopened.
