Two people are dead and three others are injured following a tragic sequence of events that ended with a tow truck smashing through an area home. Emergency crews responded to the scene on Front Road late Saturday evening. The road was closed throughout the night but reopened in the early hours of Sunday morning. Unconfirmed reports indicate the driver, with two passengers on board, may have suffered a medical emergency losing control of the vehicle which left the road, striking the house. There were two people in the home at the time of the collision. RCMP have yet to confirm the details and the identities of the deceased. The collision remains under investigation. The RCMP say more details will be released on Monday. RESOURCE LINK More information has been released on an incident in Port au Port West Saturday afternoon that claimed the lives of two people and sent three others to the hospital. RCMP were called to the scene on Front Street around 5:40 Saturday afternoon. A tow truck, carrying three people, left the road and struck a home, coming to rest inside the residence. The company which owns the tow truck involved in the horrific crash is expressing its sympathy to the families involved. The company, Eddy’s Towing, says the driver suffered a medical condition and died. VOCM News has been told while efforts were made to maintain control of the moving vehicle, it left the road and struck the house. The 61-year-old driver of the tow truck and an elderly woman inside the house died at the scene. Two people in the tow truck and an elderly man inside the home were taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. RESOURCE LINK It’s with very heavy hearts we post today that we lost one of our drivers yesterday in the line of duty. He suffered medical conditions which caused the deck truck he was driving to leave the road and crash into a house. Tragically a lady in the residence at the time also passed away. We cannot begin to express our sympathy to both families at this very, very difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to our customers that were riding in our truck back to the dealership with their disabled vehicle. It is a tragedy for all involved. RESOURCE LINK Our Condolences and apologies for the delay is posting this information. Additional details were only made available today.
