Man injured in shooting near McAdenville (NC) "Updated 01.25.23"

A man was shot Monday evening in a confrontation over a vehicle in a lot just north of McAdenville, according to a release from the Gaston County Police Department. 

 

Police were called to a lot on the 600 block of Hickory Grove Road at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16,, according to a press release.

 

People who called 911 had said that a man had been shot once in the leg, and a tow truck was seen leaving the lot after the incident. 

 

The man who was shot was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury. 

 

Police did not identify him.

 

Police eventually found the tow truck that witnesses described, and the people believed to be involved in the shooting were in the tow truck. Police did not identify those people or the towing company involved in the incident.

 

No further information was released.

A man was shot in the leg after he tried to stop a tow truck operator from taking his car that was parked in a lot in Gaston County, investigators said.

 

Officers were called to Hickory Grove Road, just north of McAdenville, for the shooting at about 6 p.m. Monday.

 

When they arrived, officers found the man who had been shot. He was not seriously hurt but was taken to the hospital, police said.

 

Witnesses said the shooting stemmed from a fight over a vehicle, Gaston County investigators said.

 

Police said shortly afterward, officers found a wrecker that fit the descriptions the witnesses had given. Investigators said two people believed to be involved in the incident were inside the truck.

 

Police said once they have gathered enough information, they will take the case to the district attorney’s office. That will be when they will decide if anyone should be charged.

 

The man who was shot in the leg was released from the hospital.

 

Gaston County police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to call Det. S. Brogden at 704-866-3320, or Crimestoppers at 704-861-8000.

Authorities are offering a $1,000 reward for details about the case.

Investigators in Gaston County announced the arrests of two men after someone was shot in the leg while trying to stop a tow truck operator from taking his car.

 

Officers were called to Hickory Grove Road, just north of McAdenville, for the shooting at about 6 p.m. on Jan. 16.

 

When they arrived, officers found the man who had been shot. He was not seriously hurt but was taken to the hospital and released later, police said.

 

Witnesses said the shooting stemmed from a fight over a vehicle, Gaston County investigators said.

 

Police said shortly afterward, officers found a wrecker that fit the descriptions the witnesses had given. Investigators said two people believed to be involved in the incident were inside the truck.

 

Gaston County police said on Monday, they arrested both men involved in the shooting. Johnny Louis Reeves Jr., 52, of Charlotte, was charged with felony larceny. Michael Conner, 49, of Belmont, was charged with felony larceny, possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He also had a warrant for misdemeanor failure to appear.

 

Both men are being held in the Gaston County jail. Conner was given a $101,000 bond and Reeves was given a $100,000 bond.

 

Gaston County police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to call Det. S. Brogden at 704-866-3320, or Crimestoppers at 704-861-8000.
