Louisiana State Police warn drivers against distracted driving

Recommended Posts

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Louisiana State Police are warning drivers of the dangers of distracted driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than three thousand people in the United States died in 2022 due to distracted driving. Louisiana State Police Trooper, Ryan Davis said driving distracted is anything that takes your attention away from driving. He said driving distracted can be and is not limited to activities like texting, eating, taking a phone call, attending to a child in the back seat of your car, or changing your radio station while driving.

LSP Trooper Ryan Davis said, “We pull people over for distracted driving all the time. Most of the time we will give people a warning and educate them on distracted driving. If you are driving and turning around to the back seat of your car, your attention is not on the road and you could easily veer your vehicle off the road or into another vehicle.”

Arkansas State Police and Mississippi State Police are also increasing law enforcement for distracted driving as well.

West Monroe Driving Academy Driving Instructor and Owner, Charles Crain said, “The best way to avoid distracted driving is to focus your attention on driving, place all electronic devices on drive mode, and limit the amount of drivers in your vehicle.”

He said in the United States, if a teenager does not live to the age of twenty-four, there is an eighty percent chance that the death of the teenager was due to a car crash.

Louisiana State Police encourages drivers to drive responsibly and consider others and themselves by following the laws.
