Las Vegas man accused in deadly tow yard shooting ran from scene before turning self in, police say

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A usually bustling business remained quiet on Wednesday, as employees of All-In Towing mourn their colleague, Jonet Dominguez.

“Every morning I came in he was outside I would wave to him and say good morning I’ve been over to his place for notary work I’m still in shock,”  a woman who works across the street said. She wished to remain anonymous.

She also told 8 News Now she could see the chaos unfolding on Tuesday morning from her window.

A declaration of arrest report obtained by 8 News now revealed on Tuesday, that 27-year-old Jaton Herder walked into the business to pick up his rented Tesla that was towed.

But, there was some paperwork that was not notarized, the arrest report stated.

That is when an employee went to get Dominguez who wouldn’t give Herder the car without the proper paperwork. This upset Herder and that is when he pulled out his gun and shot Dominguez and ran off, according to the arrest report.

“It all happened so fast the next thing you know all the ambulances and all the police cars are here,” the woman said.

Dominguez died at the hospital, but as police began to piece the incident together the arrest report stated they got a call from an attorney in Henderson who said Herder was in his office and wanted to turn himself in.

Herder made his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Employees inside the tow yard business did not comment on the matter.

However, 8 News Now has learned that Dominguez was a partner at the tow company.

Herder is charged with open murder and will be in court again on January 17th.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Family members and friends of a tow truck driver who was shot to death while on the job will hold a candlelight vigil Friday night to remember a man they say was devoted to his family and community.

Jonet Dominguez was killed on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at All-In Towing, a tow company business where he was a co-owner.

“He leaves behind his beloved wife and 9 children, who are trying to come to terms with this devastating loss,” wrote a family friend on a Gofundme page. “As we grieve, we also remember the selfless and compassionate spirit that was Jonet. He was an amazing father, husband, friend, and leader who always wanted to help others in any way he could.”

The account was set up to help pay for Dominguez’s funeral and help his family get through this difficult time.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan police, 27-year-old Jaton Herder went to the towing business to pick up his rented Tesla that was towed but he didn’t have the proper paperwork. When Dominguez wouldn’t release the car, Herder shot him, police said.

The candlelight vigil will take place Friday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m. outdoors in a field at Awaken Las Vegas Christian Church at 7175 W. Oquendo Avenue, near Russell Road and Rainbow Boulevard. (The family changed the location to accommodate more people)

Didn't have his paperwork? Perhaps ALL vehicles towed for ALL reasons should require a release by local law enforcement. Think of all of those unregistered, none insured cars with drivers driving on suspended licenses and people with basic warrants who would be required to meet minimum requirements to operate a motor vehicle? I'm pretty sure this coward wouldn't have shot anyone had a release been required by an agency. I know what the Naysayers are about to say, but it could be a possible solution ... let the excuses roll.
