Like many towing companies, we offer the use of a truck for groups participating in holiday parades.  This past Independence Day parade was no exception. The exception came as the parade was going to begin.

 

The guys in the shop worked all week to get the trailer ready for the band that was going to be in the parade. It was ready to go, but when it came time to move to the spot in the parade line-up, the brakes locked up. I was watching the parade at the end of the parade route when I received a phone call with this news.

 

It was a hot day, and so was the driver, which happened to be my husband. A few choice words were said. While I understood his frustration and how upset he was, and I could only imagine the looks on the faces of the band members, I said, “you were a Boy Scout, you can figure it out.” Not sure if that was the best thing to say, but he did figure it out. And while he was the last participant in the parade, nobody knew the difference and the band sounded awesome.

 

The Optimist Club sponsors this parade, and with all that happened that day, I thought I would share the Optimist Club Creed:

Timeline: Christian D. Larson wrote The Optimist Creed in 1912. Ernst Holmes Built the first wrecker in 1916 and the Optimist International adopted the Optimist Creed in 1922. The Optimist Creed was not actually written for the Optimist Club International..

 

As a side note, for many years I was a member of one of the oldest Optimist Clubs in the nation formed in Louisville, Ky. in 1916. Ernst Holmes must have certainly been an Optimist when he invented the first wrecker in Chattanooga, Tn. in 1916.
