The CHP Stockton office tweeted that the two officers were in a CHP vehicle that was struck in the rear around 2:30 a.m. KCRA reported that the officers’ vehicle was on the shoulder of I-5 waiting for a tow truck to assist a semi that broke down overnight. A passing car struck the CHP vehicle, plowed into trees, caught fire and the three people inside died. The officers were flown to a hospital. The area of the crash is northwest of Lodi. GCU announced his death Thursday night: The 23-year-old Frayer, his sister and his girlfriend were in an SUV when it veered off the road early Tuesday morning, hit a California Highway Patrol car, struck a tree and caught fire, according to SF Gate. All three occupants of the SUV reportedly died, while two CHP personnel sustained serious injuries. Photos posted by the CHP Stockton Facebook page show the extent of the damage.
