TowBot Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 The International Towing & Recovery Museum is looking to start an annual Christmas tradition for Chattanooga residents and visitors this season by featuring “Christmas Pete” at its location. Christmas Pete, a Peterbilt with a 60-ton Century rotator that belongs to John Weaver of Mauldin Body Shop & Towing in Canton, Ga., is decked out with 175,000 LED lights powered by two onboard generators and a holiday music sound system consisting of a mixing board, iPod and five 1,000-watt amplified speakers. The truck will be on display at the museum on Friday, December 4, 2020, from 4 to 7 p.m. Museum General Manager Cathy Brumgard hopes that the impressive sights and sounds of Christmas Pete will make the museum a must-see for local residents on their Christmas light tours, and attract attention to the museum’s new gift shop re-branded “Hattie’s on Holmes Gifts.” The gift shop now includes not only towing-related items and souvenirs, but non-towing items and gifts popular to tourists visiting the area. The shop is named after the wife of Ernest Holmes, inventor of the tow truck. Hattie Holmes is said to have been instrumental in the establishment of Holmes’ small mechanic’s shop at the beginning of his career. As the museum’s grounds are on the corner of Broad Street and Holmes Street, Brumgard says, the name Hattie’s on Holmes was fitting. While taking Covid-19 precautions and social distancing this year, Brumgard would like to see Christmas Pete become an annual holiday treat, and a great promotional event for the museum.
