  1. Thank you to Essex Police for coming out and protecting me on a recovery on a duel carriage way called the A131 in Essex UK. The vehicle I was recovering was on the grass as we have no hard shoulder on most of our roads in the area, and if I pulled on to the grass I would sink as it has been raining a lot. Managed the situation and took the keys off he lady for her Dodge Nitro with a banging noise from the engine as she could get a lift home in another car. This little clip is 15 minutes squashed to 60 seconds! Its from the rolling road block load and to a place of safety to strap the vehicle down. (there is music to the video) Be safe as you can out there people
  2. As said there is low resources and getting a police car is blessing! If the Police are on scene before us we can not deploy cones from our vehicle it has to be from the authorities in control. Highways do not support as rapid responce to support the police on this road. And if we stop and obstruct traffic we get a £60.00 fine for a £45.00 job.
  3. Yesterday afternoon I was assisting a broken down vehicle on a major road in Essex called the A12. The police vehicle was protecting me in lane one. But two vehicles decided to go round the police car and come back into lane one. Police officers had some words to say to the drivers.

  11. Article released in Motor Transport Magazine A campaign to highlight the dangers recovery operators face at the roadside is stepping up a gear after receiving “an underwhelming level of response” from MPs. ‘Slow Down Move Over’ (SDMO) was set up four years ago by recovery operator Paul Anstee in an effort to educate the public about what action is required in the event of their vehicle breaking down in order to keep themselves safe. SDMO is also aimed at educating road users to be aware of temporary hazards and to raise awareness of those working at the roadside. Mr Anstee said the government’s insistence on building Smart motorways was increasing the risk to operators working at the roadside. He said: “We have sent letters to relevant MPs suggesting the idea of educating road users through speed awareness courses, the highway code and driving lessons. “However we have unfortunately had an underwhelming level of response to the idea. “Despite this, we have been in contact with Highways England, who are now looking into the ways in which they can support the campaign.” Mr Anstee said he now wanted to raise the issue within the haulage and logistics industry and “encourage relevant training bodies and companies to endorse SDMO in appropriate courses and perhaps to see the inclusion of SDMO on websites and vehicle livery, therefore promoting the campaign further". He added: “It is a sad fact that a significant number of these unfortunate instances until now have involved HGVs and we are therefore seeking support in combatting the problem and reducing accidents and deaths.” Link below to article: https://motortransport.co.uk/blog/2020/06/19/campaigners-highlight-dangers-of-roadside-recovery/?fbclid=IwAR2RyOvgYF0L2V_bpHtILpIxDzf7OF6VscZ8FFyJLSA6rhDnwR0ZqlLKm88

  16. Andy Lambert has now now received the 15 videos shown below which means I need 17 more to make up two screens full. If you are not in the video then you have until Thursday morning at which point he will give up. Please get involved A few of us are putting together a video to promote the INDEPENDENT RECOVERY OPERATORS who as usual are largely invisible to the rest of the world despite being KEY WORKERS themselves! If the finished video is good enough we will use our contacts at the CSRRR (Campaign for Safer Roadside Rescue and Recovery) to try and get it on the box. The plan is to make the video with a series of 16 screens showing 16 VRO’s all saying the same thing. Click here for instructions and the script. https://www.andysvideo.com/the-video.pdf Thank you to Andy for his hard

  18. I have been experimenting with a magnetic fold up arrow system from the USA. With the low numbers of supporting authorities on UK roads need to look at different ideas. I have found that this helps in making people aware and you can put this system on the rear of a vehicle whilst loading. @mushspeed
  19. Well done to Simon and Sarah from Nuvech and there Air Bar. My Rescue Recovery (tow company) has been trailing this product for over a year now! and I have to say it helps to make people to make space when passing. It all so helps when your beacons are covered by the vehicle you are loading! The Airbar helps to alerts drivers that there is a hazard. At no point in using this item has any one actually hit the air bar when it's in use. This month from all their hard work at Nuvech in the UK! American Towman has done a article on this product http://digital.olivesoftware.com/Olive/ODN/AmericanTowman/default.aspx @mushspeed

  22. Thoughts and prayers are with Family, friends and colleagues from Slowdownmoveover UK
  23. Dear All

I am a tow operator in the UK! I grew up in the industry in my parents business like many of you I am sure. Our company's name is Service On Site Limited created in 1973 at the same time I was and was HOOKED at the age of 3.and spent most of my life with my dad and his tow trucks and in the workshop.  In 2004 I bought the company from my parents and created into a Limited company. website: www.recovery-central.com

In June 2016 I experienced what I can only explain as an eye opener as one of my VRO's  got struck working roadside. (not killed) The way I would describe  it is when you live near a railway line you can't hear the trains! This woke me up to the train noise. So started asking what are we doing about this in our industry? and I started to building the Slow Down or Move Over Safely Campaign in the UK with some amazing people.

Please take a look at www.slowdownmoveover.uk we have come a long way in 2 years and it's only in it's infancy.

We are on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Instagram.

We have also built an shopping cart and a apparel  to raise funds to help build more awareness and support getting the message out there to SLOW DOWN or MOVE OVER Safely
