Two killed, one injured in collision at LPT1 (Malaysia)

KUANTAN, April 8 (Bernama) -- Two men were killed and another was injured when a truck towing a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) rammed into the rear of a lorry at KM 222.5 of the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1) near here this morning.

Pahang Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Supt Kamarulzaman Jusoh said the tow-truck driver Muhammad Asrul Yatim, 22, and truck attendant Lum Wai Kit, 22, both from Selangor died at the scene in the 9.30am incident.

"Preliminary investigations found that the tow-truck was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan when it hit the rear of the Mitsubishi Fuso truck which had broken down and was parked on the emergency lane.

Due to the impact of the collision the tow truck driver and attendant were pinned to their seats, while the driver of the Toyota Avanza MPV who was in the vehicle, Mohd Zailani bin Md Dak, 41, suffered thigh injuries,” he said when contacted today.

Kamarulzaman added that the driver and passenger of the truck laden with pineapple suckers were unhurt.

He said the bodies of the two victims were taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for post-mortem adding that the accident had occurred on a dry and level stretch of the highway.

 

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama
