TowZone
A tow truck operator was struck Monday morning in Westmoreland by a pickup truck whose driver did not stop, said Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol’s office. Thomas Oberster, 32, of Waterville, had just completed a service call for Midland Collision in the 6400 block of West South Road around 10:45 a.m. when he was struck by the truck, which left the area without stopping, deputies said. Oberster was treated for minor injuries at the scene by EMTs from COCVAC Ambulance and then transported to the St. Elizabeth Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System for further evaluation. Deputies are looking for the other vehicle, a black, 2007-2011 body style Chevrolet 1500 pickup with an extended cab. Its New York State license plate number contains “EKY,” deputies said. The driver was described as a 40-to-50-year-old white man, deputies said. The pickup was last seen heading west on West South Street toward Cooper Street. Anyone with information is asked to call Deputy Dan Walts at 315-765-2716. The Westmoreland Fire Department assisted at the scene.
