Crash involving tow truck causes damage to Logan Square Blue Line station, charges pending (IL)

n early morning crash Saturday involving a tow truck in the Logan Square neighborhood caused significant damage to the Logan Blue Line station, and charges were pending, Chicago police said.

 

The accident happened about 5 a.m. near the intersection of Milwaukee and Kedzie avenues, and left an entrance to the Logan Square Blue Line station damaged, sending glass and debris onto the steps below as an early morning train let off passengers.

 

Chicago police, fire and paramedics responded to the scene, which left a red Dodge sedan damaged in the middle of the intersection and the tow truck with its nose sticking through a smashed pane of glass at the station's entrance. A bus stop on Milwaukee was also badly damaged by the tow truck, which ran through part of a community garden near the station.

 

At least one person appeared to be injured in the crash and was seen being treated in an ambulance while being interviewed by Chicago police, his head wrapped in a bandage and what appeared to be blood on his face.

 

Chris Martin, who works at a Milwaukee Avenue bar in Logan Square, says he routinely sees tow trucks "racing" up and down the street to tow cars when he's headed home from work during early morning hours. Martin was getting off a train from downtown in the subterranean station when he heard an enormous crash

"This would have killed someone over there, if people had been on the stairs,” Martin said.

Multi-vehicle crash sends tow truck crashing into CTA Blue Line station

 

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A tow truck driver is okay after his truck crashed into a CTA Blue Line station early Saturday.

According to police, the truck was involved in a multi-vehicle crash. The impact from that crash sent the truck into the Logan Square station.

The driver was taken to Norwegian American Hospital.

Crews from the CTA and the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation have been called to clean up and repair the station.
