The incident, which took place on Interstate 75 North near Windy Hill Road in Cobb County, drew response from local authorities as they seek to piece together the events that led up to the crash. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, a disabled Mercedes occupied the right shoulder as preparations were in motion for its recovery. It was during this vulnerable moment that a GMC Yukon, reportedly swerving out of its lane, rammed into the tow truck that was positioned behind the Mercedes. The impact forced the tow truck into the Mercedes, thrusting it forward, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. The collision occurred at approximately 11:17 p.m. on May 5. Atlanta News First reports that the driver and passenger of the Mercedes were standing outside their vehicle and were struck in the collision. The driver of the disabled car sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Yukon's driver, along with the Mercedes passenger, were also injured and required hospitalization. Miraculously, the tow truck driver emerged from the wreckage unharmed. The Cobb County Police Department's STEP Unit has taken the reigns of the investigation to determine the specifics of why the Yukon driver lost control. As of now, no additional details have been disclosed, leaving unanswered questions in the wake of the incident according to Atlanta News First. TowForce Posted May 9 Author Share Posted May 9 Truck slams into 3 people, tow truck driver changing tire on side of I-75, seriously injuring them COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Three people changing a tire on the side of I-75 in Cobb County were seriously injured when a truck slammed into a tow truck that was on the scene to help. Police said the accident happened on May 5 around 11:15 p.m. before Windy Hill Road on I-75 North. Two people, 42-year-old Walter Williams and 35-year-old Micah Baskin, were standing outside of the Mercedes. Police said a 2015 GMC Yukon operated by Rodney Griffin, 49, was driving north on I-75 when he entered the traffic safety zone and hit the parked tow truck and the Mercedes. The GMC pushed the tow truck into the Mercedes, which then slammed into Williams and Baskin, throwing them into the median of the highway. Williams was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
