TowForce
A tow truck driver was charged with involuntary manslaughter on Friday, June 9, and accused of falling asleep at the wheel before a crash that killed an 82-year-old Staunton man. Charges allege that on Oct. 18, 2022, Shawn D. Millfelt, 26, of St. Charles, Mo., was driving a tow truck loaded with two U.S. Postal Service mail trucks when he fell asleep while driving in West Alton. Millfelt's 2020 Hino truck was traveling on northbound Highway 67 at Richard Drive at about 1:30 p.m. when he failed to stop at a red light and went through the intersection, hitting the right front side of the Ford F150 pickup driven by George D. Redenius, 82, of Staunton. Redenius was heading east through the intersection. The impact pushed Redenius' truck into a third vehicle, a 2007 Pontiac G6, that was heading west and was operated by a 26-year-old Illinois man, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol. All three vehicles ran off the road, and everyone was wearing a seat belt. Redenius was taken by a medical helicopter to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.
