TowForce Posted May 5, 2023 Share Posted May 5, 2023 The Chattanooga Beer Board voted to suspend a towing company from the city's call rotation list for 30 days following a mass towing incident at a Walmart that went viral last month. Dozens of people who parked their cars in the Brainerd Walmart parking lot and then went to a casino in North Carolina were surprised when they returned to find all their vehicles had been towed. At Thursday morning's meeting, American Towing Company's attorney said that those drivers were overcharged, and that the tow truck driver was suspended for 3 days after the incident. American Tow & Recovery can still operate and tow cars, but they will be removed from the City of Chattanooga's call rotation list for 30 days. Company officials also said they reimbursed all of the affected drivers within 24 hours, though one driver testified at the meeting that she wasn't refunded until last week. And others say they are still waiting for their refund. According to one receipt a driver shared with us, they were charged a $135 property tow fee as well as a $65 admin fee and a $50 gate fee, for a grand total of $290.
