(KFGO) – Two North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers escaped injury after their parked squad truck was struck by oncoming traffic on I-29, a mile south of the Argusville exit shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday The state patrol vehicle was parked, with its emergency lights flashing, blocking one lane of southbound I-29 and providing traffic control for a wrecker that was towing a vehicle from the median. Two vehicles approached the patrol vehicle side by side and failed to yield. A Ford Explorer traveling in the closed lane failed to move over for the patrol truck, attempted to brake, and lost control. The Ford struck the rear of the patrol truck and went into the median and the patrol vehicle spun around and came to a stop in the southbound lanes of I-29. No one was injured in the crash. Two additional crashes happened at the scene after the patrol vehicle was struck and one commercial motor vehicle drove into the ditch. four other vehicles spun out and also went into the ditch, nearly striking both the patrol vehicle and the tow truck.
